Open arms
Gary Go Lyrics

Whatever happened to truth
Lost without a trace
Whatever happened to the mirror
That showed me a happy face
Whatever happened to sorry
You know it's never too late
Whatever happened to good things coming
Coming to those who wait
Whatever happened to this city
It's not like it used to be
Whatever happened to me

Whatever happened to living
Without fear
Whatever happened to peace all over
Such a strong idea
Whatever happened to our future
Cause I can see it in the rear view
Whatever happened to me
Whatever happened to you

Gotta look myself in the eye
And say it's gonna be alright
Maybe everything won't be alright
All the time
Gotta take these chances where they are
It's gonna be alright
Gotta see things for what they are
At the time

Lost with no place to begin
I'll slowly adjust to the sun just face I'm in

Whatever happened to the list
Of things I wanted to be
Whatever happened to you
Whatever happened to me

Gotta look myself in the eye
And say it's gonna be alright
Maybe everything won't be alright
All the time
I've gotta take these chances where they are
And it's gonna be alright
I've gotta see things for what they are
At the time, at the time

Your the water I'm the seed
Ready to receive
I'm the ocean you're the stream
Ready to receive
It's like open arms to me
Ready to, ready to receive

Gotta look myself in the eye
And say it's gonna be alright
Maybe everything won't be alright
All the time
No, gotta take these chances where they are
And it's gonna be alright
Gotta see things for what they are
At the time
I've gotta see things for what they are

At the time,
At the time

Overall Meaning

Gary Go's "Open Arms" starts with questions about the world that used to exist but have now vanished. He wonders about the disappearance of truth, apologies, a happy face in the mirror, and the good things in life that used to come to those who waited. He also wonders about the loss of courage to live without fear, the peace that was once an achievable ideal, and the future he had envisioned. He then questions what happened to himself and the people around him. The lyrics suggest that the world has become unrecognizable, and people have become disconnected from their inner selves.

In the chorus, Gary Go encourages himself to confront his fears, accept his current situation, and face his reality. He acknowledges that everything may not always be fine, but he must embrace the risks and take chances. He knows that he must be honest with himself, and that can make everything all right. In the last stanza, he talks about being like a seed that needs water to grow, and an ocean that needs a stream to maintain its flow. He feels that something about the open arms of a place or a person has made him feel accepted, and he is ready to receive what they offer.

I’ve liked this song since it was released. 6 years ago I survived a near death experience from septic shock following a terrible accident.

It took almost 2 months to relearn and regain strength to walk. I consider myself blessed. I could have died… or have had to endure amputation like so many septic shock survivors. But I need only my cane and a slow pace :-)

While in physical rehab I listened to this song everyday because it was so positive. It helped me stay motivated to get through a fair amount of pain and struggle.

The “Gary GO” name is also special to me … I’m 63 but nicknames tend to travel with you through the years.

Gary GO … if you’re out there… thanks from the other Gary (G)O .
