Speak
Gary Go Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I don't wanna fall asleep
Cause I don't wanna wake up here again
If I could hear myself speak
I don't think id talk a word again
I've not got a words with way
I've not got much to do or say
Nobody let me in
I'll never finish so why begin

Give it some time
Give yourself hope
Or I'll give you mine
Cause I don't need it anymore

there's no accounting for taste
Lets agree to disagree
I'm a good person going two ways
You can leave but I've got to live with me

Give it some time
Give yourself hope
Or I'll give you mine
Cause I don't need it anymore

I'm sorry I spoke
Had all my eggs in one basket
It broke
But I don't need them anymore
Oh I tried
This will has run dry
Do you fall a thousand times before you fly
Time goes by been living a lie
Gotta fall a thousand times before we fly so

Give it some time
Give yourself hope
Or I'll give you mine
Cause I don't need anymore

I'm letting it go
I know what I like
And don't like what I know
Cause I don't know me anymore

I must be crazy to beat me
Must be crazy to beat me

I'm letting it go

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Speak" by Gary Go are about a person who is struggling with their self-worth and feeling lost in life. The song is essentially a reflection on the internal dialogue of someone who is questioning their decisions, their relationships, and their identity. In the first verse, the singer doesn't want to fall asleep because they don't want to wake up in the same place again. They feel like they are stagnant and not progressing in their life. They don't even want to talk because they feel they have nothing worth saying.

The chorus of the song is like a plea for hope. The singer is begging themselves or someone else to give them some time to figure things out, to find hope and to keep going. They don't want to be burdened with the weight of other's hopelessness, but they also don't want to give up on themselves. In the second verse, the singer acknowledges that there is no accounting for taste, suggesting that they have been trying to please people and live by their standards. They acknowledge that they are two different people when they are trying to please someone else and when they are trying to be themselves. Ultimately, they realize they can be good by being authentic, even if that means disagreeing with others.

The bridge of the song seems to be where the singer hits rock bottom. They apologize for speaking, and it seems as though they have lost everything they had. They don't know who they are anymore, and they are searching for some sense of identity. However, the song ends with a glimmer of hope, as the singer decides to let go of the past and embrace what they do know about themselves.

I tried to find the lyrics to the last part but no one seems to have posted them. So I figured them out myself. Im not 100% sure of everything but it goes something like this:

i came on my own
i lost my ways
and chance is i broke
to lever mistakes

its taking its time
its taking its toll
to cover inside
taking my soul

theres no need to speak
i already spoke
the words that prefix
the things that i broke

ive done what ive done
ive done what i know
im letting is glide
im letting it go

@darkkaizokuoni

+Joel Kall i tried deciphering it years ago as well haha i've forgotten some but here are some corrections to yours

i came on my own
ill leave the same way
the chances ive blownย
???

its taking its time
its taking its toll
????
taking my soul

theres no need to speak
i already spoke
the words that convince
that i must be brokeย

ive done what ive done
ive done what i know
im letting it by
im letting it go

Pure undeniable honesty in this song. It's a seamless marrying of hope and hopelessness. What a turn of words, "Give it some time, give yourself hope, or I'll give you mean, cause I don't need it, anymore". Hoping the best for the other, trying to inspire, all the while, struggling with calling it quits himself. So many times we hold others to higher standards then we do ourselves. Intense sentiments in this song.
