Patchwork G
Gary Jules Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
With shrinking hands I can't keep to myself
Springtime...Saturday
Perfect in an easy way
And it's a customary sin
For angels in the dark
A lighter spark to brighten her skies
Just might change this life of mine
And I'm up on inspiration drive
If you could see what I've seen
Patchwork woman sunshine suits you fine
Sleeping with her sandals on
In a California dream
I'm singing
"La-la-la-la-la-la think I'm up to something"
And on a custom made afternoon the candle she burns
The wheels turn and four eyes look away
Wood is getting tangled up in steam
Blue and hazel mix to green
And I'm up on inspiration drive
If you could see what I've seen
Patchwork woman sunshine suits you fine
Perfect in an easy way
The world behind the worlds
I'm singing
"La-la-la-la-la-la"
And I'm up on inspiration drive
If you could see what I've seen
Patchwork woman sunshine suits you fine
Sleeping with her sandals on
In a California dream
I'm singing
"La-la-la-la-la-la think I'm up to something"
The lyrics of Patchwork G by Gary Jules provide an elaborate description of a seemingly perfect and relaxed afternoon in California. The singer describes it as "custom made" implying that it is a special and unique event. However, the singer also implies that there is an underlying sense of anxiety and unease. The singer's hands are "shrinking" and they cannot keep to themselves, suggesting a sense of restlessness or nervousness.
Furthermore, the song includes elements of sin, darkness, and inspiration, creating a contradictory tone. The line "It's a customary sin for angels in the dark" suggests that there is something illicit or forbidden about the afternoon's events. However, the singer's inspiration drive and singing "La-la-la-la-la-la think I'm up to something" further emphasizes that the mood is both creative and exciting. The patchwork woman is described as a vision in sunshine, further adding to the sense of relaxation and positivity. The world behind the worlds is also mentioned, which may imply that there's something more profound or mystical happening beyond the surface.
Overall, the lyrics of Patchwork G are poetic and laden with symbolism that creates an elusive and ambiguous mood. The song appears to be describing a day full of contradictions, where anxiety and relaxation, inspiration, and sin co-exist effortlessly.
