Fanatical Fascists
Gary Moore Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

There's a new sensation
Playin' across the nation.
Just don't care, they just don't care.
They'll eat your heart out
Before you start out.
Just don't care, they just don't care.

Every dog will have its own way.
Throw out the old, bring in the new, they say.
Every dog will have its new day.
Just don't care, just don't care.

Fanatical fascists with Italian mustaches
Just don't care, they just don't care.
They'll beat your brains in
So stop your complainin'.
Just don't care, they just don't care.

Your heart is leaning to the left,
But your hand in your pocket
It leads you to the right.
Your heart is leaning to the left,
But the fight is tonight.
(The fight's tonight.)

Oh-no-no, oh-no-no.
Oh-no-no, oh-no-no.
Oh-no-no, oh-no-no.
Oh-no-no-no-no-no (oh-no-no, oh-no-no).

They just don't care, just don't care.
(Just don't) just don't care.
(Just don't) said they just don't care.
(Just don't) just don't care.
(Just don't) just don't care.

(Just don't.)
(Just don't.)
(Just don't.)
(Just don't.)

(Just don't) just don't care.
(Just don't) just don't care.

(Just don't) I said they just don't care.
(Just dont't).

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Gary Moore's "Fanatical Fascists" describe a new sensation spreading across the nation that involves people who simply don't care about anything. They are portrayed as heartless predators who will eat your heart out before you even have a chance to start out. The song suggests that these fanatical fascists have little regard for the old ways and traditions, and they are focused on bringing in new ways of thinking and doing things. The chorus repeats the phrase "just don't care," driving home the point that these people are indifferent to the consequences of their actions.

The song includes references to Italian mustaches, suggesting the fanatical fascists are perhaps fascist Italians. The second verse asserts that the fight is tonight, further evoking imagery of violence and fierce antagonism. Some interpret the lyrics as a protest against the rise of far-right ideologies in Europe and their destructive potential. They may also be seen as a broader critique of apathy and indifference in society. Overall, the song conveys a sense of frustration and helplessness in the face of a dangerous movement.

The instrumental bridge after the first verse is a direct lift from "With Love" from "Black Rose." Of course, Lynott wrote both of those songs, so it's "style," rather than plagiarism. :-)

I think this one is earlier than With Love,so it might be the other way round :o)
