Parisienne Walkways
Gary Moore Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I remember Paris in '49
The Champs-Élysées, Saint Michelle and old Beaujolais wine
And I recall that you were mine
In those Parisienne days

Looking back at the photographs
Those summer days spent outside corner cafes
Oh, I could write you paragraphs
About my old Parisienne days

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Gary Moore's song Parisienne Walkways are a nostalgic reminisce on times long gone by. Set against the backdrop of Paris in the late 1940s, the song's narrator looks back at his youthful days spent in the City of Love with fondness and a hint of regret. He remembers the Champs-Élysées, Saint Michelle, and, most vividly, the old Beaujolais wine that flowed so freely in those days gone by. But more than anything, he remembers the one woman who made his Parisienne days so special, and who he wistfully recalls as once having been his.

Throughout the song, the memories come thick and fast, each one bringing a flood of emotions to the surface. In particular, the singer recalls spending long summer days outside the corner cafes of Paris, watching the world go by and soaking up the city's unique charm. As the song progresses, his memories become more detailed, and he speaks of how he could "write you paragraphs" about his old Parisienne days, so vivid and important are they to him.

Overall, the mood of Parisienne Walkways is one of bittersweet reflection. Although the memories are happy and cherished, they are tainted with the sadness of knowing that those days are long gone and can never be recaptured. It's a beautifully written and evocative song that speaks to the power of nostalgia and the human need for connection and meaningful experiences.

My father introduced me to Gary Moore as a young boy. He said that i can play any instrument in my life, so i chose the guitar.

The talent Gary provided for a growing mind to the guitar world made me want to learn more.

My father and I had tickets for a show after his holiday in Spain. Little did i know that that was his last holiday.. Those tickets are still in our safe, it will forever be.

I miss your talent Gary. I listen to your albums as a musical diary for my everyday life.. I one day hope to jam some riffs out with you.
