Tracks
Gary Numan Lyrics

Where are the tracks?
Where are the lines?
Where are the tracks, dear?
Where is the time?

You were so cold
You were so slow
You were so old
And we were unsure
And I want your lines
And I want your time
And I want your face, dear
And you can have mine

Ever hear a song that re-wired your brain? Well that’s what listening to this song for the first time did to me. I’d bought ‘Are Friends Electric’, and having heard ‘Cars’ I figured an album purchase was required. So I bought the Pleasure Principle, put this track on, and on 32 seconds, genuinely realised my life had changed forever. It was 1979, I was 15, and I’ve been a Numanoid ever since. Christ knows what would have happened to my brain if I’d put ‘Airlane’ on first.

I used to "zone out" listening to Gary Numan, long before we had the phrase to express that trance-like quality that good music can bring about.

All this time, @40 yrs, i thougt the lyric was:
You were so cold
You were so slow
And we were so old, dear
And we were on the floor. I just read it's, "And we were unsure" ... i kinda like both 🤖
