Wright, a friend of George Harrison, appeared in a TV show at the age of 7. Later he came to Europe to continue studying psychology. In 1967 he joined the band Spooky Tooth as singer and keyboardist. After Spooky Tooth's split in 1974, he continued his solo career culminating in "Dream Weaver". The single peaked at #2 for 3 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1976, and went gold. It was also featured in the Wayne's World film and soundtrack. Later that year, his follow-up single "Love Is Alive" also reached #2 (for 2 weeks). Ronnie Montrose played guitar on the Gary Wright song "Power Of Love" from the Dream Weaver album.
This would be the last significant success Wright would achieve on the pop chart until 1981, when he returned with "Really Wanna Know You, a bouncy, bass-heavy pop song that hit #16. His 1981 song "Comin' Apart" was sampled by Armand van Helden in the 2004 club music anthem "My, My, My".
On June 8, 2010, Gary Wright released Connected, his first new pop/rock album in over 20 years. The album's lead single "Satisfied" has special guest appearances by Ringo Starr on drums, with both Joe Walsh and Jeff 'Skunk' Baxter on guitar. Wright continues to tour, most recently as a member of the supergroup 'Ringo Starr & His All-Starr Band'.

Wildfire
Gary Wright Lyrics

My desire is ready to unwind
Ooh, I finally found what I've been looking for
Threw away the chains that bound my heart
Since I met you, you opened the door
Yes, you gave me a brand new start
My desire is waiting to unwind
Wildfire burning in my mind
Craziness took me by surprise
But I feel I got the world in my hand
Happiness look me in the eyes
No one but you can understand
Wildfire is in my mind
My desire is waiting to unwind
Wildfire burning in my mind
Wildfire is in my mind
My desire is waiting to unwind
Wildfire burning in my mind
Wildfire is in my mind
My desire is waiting to unwind
Wildfire is in my mind
Burning in my mind, oh yeah
My desire is waiting to unwind
I finally found what I've been looking for
Wildfire is in my mind
Burn fire, burn fire, burn fire
My desire is waiting to unwind
I threw away the chains that bound my heart
Wildfire is in my mind
It's burning in my mind, ooh yeah
The lyrics of Gary Wright's WildFire depict the search for love and passion, and the feeling of finally finding it. The song opens with the question of how many people have everything they want, but never find the love that sets their hearts on fire. The singer acknowledges his own fear of pursuing passion in the past, but now feels compelled to try more and discover what love truly is. He describes a period of emptiness and resistance, until he eventually heard a call that ignited a wildfire within him. This feeling of burning, deep passion is contrasted with the coldness of getting and never giving, and the loneliness of being alone. The singer recognizes that being with the right person can bring about a change in him, and that living and giving love is the key to happiness.
The song conveys a sense of hope and longing for a deep connection, accompanied by rich and uplifting music. The use of the metaphor of wildfire creates a powerful image of a blazing and unstoppable force, suggesting that the love and passion the singer has found cannot be quenched or contained. The repeated refrain of "burnin' bright, burnin', burnin'" reinforces this feeling of intense heat and fervor.
