Don't Let Me Down
Gasoline (gasolinemusic.de) Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

All my dreams, they just seem to slip away
Only you can make them real
Torn between my pride and my shame
You know just how I feel

I'm leaving my fears behind
With the sun falling on my feet
We'll make it through and shine
Love is a two-way street

Don't let me down
Don't let me down
Lift up from the ground
Don't let me down

Everybody tries to break me down
Only you give me strength
Now it's time to carry on
Even when life makes no sense

I'm leaving my tears behind
The shadows have disappeared
Being a fool was my only crime
I will take the wheel and steer

Don't let me down
Don't let me down

Lift up from the ground
Don't let me down

Lyrics,

Are you insane like me?
Been in pain like me?
Bought a hundred dollar bottle of champagne like me?
Just to pour that motherfucker down the drain like me?
Would you use your water bill to dry the stain like me?
Are you high enough without the Mary Jane like me?
Do you tear yourself apart to entertain like me?
Do the people whisper 'bout you on the train like me?
Saying that you shouldn't waste your pretty face like me?
And all the people say
You can't wake up, this is not a dream
You're part of a machine, you are not a human being
With your face all made up, living on a screen
Low on self-esteem, so you run on gasoline
I think there's a flaw in my code
(Oh, ooh-oh, ooh-oh, oh)
These voices won't leave me alone
Well, my heart is gold and my hands are cold
Are you deranged like me?
Are you strange like me?
Lighting matches just to swallow up the flame like me?
Do you call yourself a fucking hurricane like me?
Pointing fingers 'cause you'll never take the blame like me?
And all the people say
You can't wake up, this is not a dream
You're part of a machine, you are not a human being
With your face all made up, living on a screen
Low on self-esteem, so you run on gasoline
I think there's a flaw in my code
(Oh, ooh-oh, ooh-oh, oh)
These voices won't leave me alone
Well, my heart is gold and my hands are cold

@BlackSeranna

My daughter had a friend in college like that - she was pretty, petite, and her poison of choice was alcohol. She could drink an entire bottle during a night of partying, no one knew how. Sometimes, in order to dry herself out, she would go home. Her parents would feel bad for her, and they took her shopping hoping that would solve her issues.

She ended up dropping out of college.

Recently I asked my daughter about this former friend; I found out she had dried herself out and she went back to school and got a degree in education. She now teaches elementary kids and loves it.

Sometimes one must find the love for one's self before one can fix the problems. She was a great example, at least to me, what works.

My daughter's other friend never figured it out. I loved that kid - his dad owned factories over in China, and he was super sweet to me (even though to the naked eye, I don't look like I have any money; and certainly, I never belonged in a financial class with this kid's parents). That kid, he didn't make it past the age of 26. It grieves my heart that somehow, he fell into the cracks. It just hurts because I see a kid with such potential and kindness, but he couldn't face his demons down.
