They are lazy hunters also as in they will not exercise a lot of energy for a meal. hgumans are not top item on the menu either

IIRC FWC kept track of alligator "bites" and 9 out of 10 are due to some idiot trying to catch one. The number of unprovoked attacks is very small in reality.

You have more chance of being injured from a fast and furious driver on i95 than being bitten by a alligator, and more of a chance of being bitten by a pitbull

I’ve lived here most of my life and can tell you that there would have been no way for you to move fast enough if he wanted to eat you. 13-15 feet is big enough to eat a person. They can run fast and I’ve even seen a 6 footer climb a chain link fence just to get into our pool. Those parents allowing their children to ride next to a body of water are crazy.

Tala, even a relatively small croc or gator can eat a person. When a croc or a gator grabs you - usually by the arm or leg, it immediately goes into what has been termed "a death roll". Assuming it's in water when this occurs, it will immediately roll over and over several times. If you fight back hard enough, you might be lucky enough to merely "lose an arm or lower leg" to the gator or croc before he swims away with your limb now in its mouth. Wanna photo or two? Let me know. I've a few that were taken by a friend of mine who at the time, was working as a game ranger in South Carolina. At a local golf course, a man was wading around in a 2 to 3-foot deep "water hole" (or "trap") trying to find an errant golf ball he had lost, only to discover, to his horror, that right as he bent down to scurry the muddy bottom with his hand, trying to find his ball - AND - all the while ignoring the "watch out for alligator" signs that were posted all over - an 8 to 10-foot gator had been there all along. It grabbed his left arm, did the "death roll", and snapped the man's arm off at the shoulder..!! The man lost his arm. They killed the gator, and got his arm out. But it had been too badly mangled and partially dissolved with stomach acid to save it. Shit happens when you're stupid & you ignore the rules..!!

I saw a 16 foot alligator in east Florida while kayaking. I have picture and video. I don’t want to say where because I want it to remain safe and not harassed. It was on the bank with a wild boar it had killed, with vultures above it. It did give the impression of being a dinosaur. It was an incredible experience I will never forget. ❤️

I grew up in Fl. I've seen them run, climb fences, climb onto porches, seen them sunning on car hoods, appear out of nowhere, I've seen them slap dock pylons with their tails trying to knock pets into the water. I love them & they're fascinating but quick & cunning. Yrs ago the wildlife authorities were in a boat trying to capture one to relocate it from a lake in Orlando at a condo complex & it propelled out of the water & took one of the men. It was on the news. People stay your distance & never harrass or impede their space. USE COMMON SENSE!

I remember in 1988, a family who lived in Florida , got tired of Gators roaming in their backyard , and other back yards , So they moved 3000+ miles away from that scary state . Talking about "easy pickin's": that moron Steve Irwin (The "Crocodile hunter" from Australia, before he killed himself with a stingray) did something so f'ing stupid, that I still have absolutely ZERO respect for that moron - even to this day..!! He held his infant son, close, out in front of a croc so his son, ostensibly, could begin to learn about crocs...!! Crocs can suddenly accelerate with that tail of theirs to unbelievable speeds for very short distances when they want to. Had Irwin's croc suddenly done just that, and had Irwin slipped and stumbled, dropping his son onto the ground at that moment, that child could very well have become an "h'ordeurve" (not sure of the correct spelling of that word...)
for the croc at that moment. How absolutely friggingly STUPID can a person be - and this guy was an "expert"...?? What an idiot..!! It's one thing to put yourself in danger - that could've been forgiven, certainly if not forgotten. But to do something like that while holding an infant in your arms..?? I sincerely hope, in the next life, that Steve Irwin gets "bitch-slapped" right into the mouth of hell for that stunt..! That was absolutely reprehensible behavior, in my opinion..!! On my first and only visit to Florida 4 years ago when my dad passed away, we went to a lovely little park with lots of boardwalks going through the marshes and water ways. While there, we did see an alligator some distance away, but was meandering between one part of the marsh to the other, taking its time. It was "normal" size, I'd say, not like these monsters! I'd never seen a live alligator in my life and to see one in its natural habitat was thrilling. We were completely safe where we were and was able to take several photos on my phone, along with lots of other wildlife, mostly birds. But I would NEVER want to get that up close and personal to any gator, thank you very much! Yikes!! ;-)

lived in Florida till I was 22. I lived on the edge of the wetlands away from the big cities. Only ever saw one this size in the wild once, behind my house. I've also seen 12 footers at the tourist traps down in the Everglades. They rarely get this big without someone feeding them, but it is possible. I can only imagine how old this guy is.

On my local news, An Animal Trapper that captures alligators stated that you do not have to live near a lake for an alligator to appear in your yard due to alligators can come through your storm drainages. Now that’s quite disturbing to hear.

We have chased every animal out of his home, stole them and made it ours. Even If they’re put in a zoo, they get tortured or killed, trophy hunting, where ever they go they get in harms way. You can put him back in alligator alley, but for crying out out don’t hurt them, they’re as confused as we are. Alligators are known to travel on land, through water & sewers & utilize underground springs. That's one reason people find them downtown in man-made lakes like those at apartment complexes. I've seen one in a lake downtown Orlando at a retirement complex.

I'm not terrified of Gators or Crocs. They tend to stay away from people, but if one is truly hungry they will attack. So laying on the ground probably isn't the best thing to do when you're that close, because they're a lot faster than you would think and that monster would probably catch you before your fat ass got on your feet.

I'm a native Floridan, grew up around them all my life. Most people don't realize that if you happen to get bitten by one and escape, you've only won half the battle. You then have to worry about fighting infections that can kill you because their mouths and teeth host a horde of nasty bacteria. We had a woman attacked some years ago and she managed to escape but then succumbed days later to bacterial infection that just went wild and overtook her immune system despite the doctor's best efforts to save her. Same goes for snapping turtle bites here. Had a neighbor bitten by a snapper and the poor dude's hand swelled up like a baseball glove and he was sick in bed for days throwing up golf ball-sized chunks of hard green slime. Ahhh, the Sunshine State.

I am from Florida and I've seen a million gators. This is a huge gator! Being from Florida, I can tell you from my experience I wouldn't be laying on the ground with my telephoto lens. In fact, I wouldn't even be that close. The only reason that gator looks sluggish is because he has just eaten. Maybe a calf or a wild hog. But if that gator gets hungry or mad, he can normally run faster than you think!

I have never clocked one, but one ate my dog in Arcadia, Florida and I have been approached by several on the Loxahatchee river. My advice is to stay back farther than you think. Lived in Lakeland as a kid and we would go for a short ride to a pond near by to go swimming. Not the lake in the middle of town. The pond had a fence splitting it in half. People would swim on one side and the gators would be sunning them selves on the bank on the other. I was only 5 or 6 but remember it quite well.

They've changed a lot since then, none of the species from the past exist today, what we have today are modern relatives. American alligators branched off around 8 million years ago. What you're saying is like calling chickens a creature from a different era "because birds existed in the time of the dinosaurs". I had one swim by me once while I was in a kayak that was longer than my 12 foot 'yak. Jason, you get caught shooting a gator and you will also receive a heavy fine. They are protected except for once a year and even then there are only so many gators that can be hunted and you have to be on the list to hunt them

You don't have to live in a swamp to see a gator. I had one take its tail and swing itself over my 6 ft stockade fence and it got in my pool. I had to call wildlife to come and get it out and I dont live in a swamp. On another street from me is a little canal with water in it and it was breeding season so the bigger ones kicked this 4 footer out and it went down my street searching for water and found my pool.

I agree with you. Alligators when left alone, really are not threats to people or pets. For many years, my family spent time in Florida, especially in early Spring when it was cold in our home area. We had family in Florida- that being said, I as a child, witnessed people harassing alligators and baiting them with their smaller pets. When the alligators reacted(in a typically alligator manner), then these people would expect the alligators to be euthanized due to aggression. I saw this happen for years. As we encroach ever more on their territory, and still act stupidly, they react. This is sad.

I'm from Louisiana and that's just not true. Gators will come into your yard to attack pets and small children.

@GlassDolphin465 Their home? I'm confused 😕 Like I said, I'm from Louisiana and they would come onto people's property to attack pets. Yes, they should be put down when they are aggressive because once they get a taste for pets, they will continue to seek them out. I've seen it with my own eyes. They have also been known to go after small children. I'm more interested in protecting my children and my pets then I am in worrying about offending an animal activist. Alligators can be quite dangerous 😳

@@RSMR7. I’m not an animal activist. Those people get insane. I’m not saying let your children and pets get eaten. But yes don’t go near them. It’s just they shouldn’t get put down for every little thing. In this case it’s different.

@GlassDolphin465 I don't think they all should be put down but we've had some aggressive ones come up. And then they just continue to come up and yes, those activists make me so mad sometimes 😒
