She Hold A Key
Gavin DeGraw Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
But there's something to say for the things
You wouldn't regularly let out
At least this chase
Makes you feel new
She holds a key
Tight in her hand
She is begging her man
Listen you sinner
I'm sinning too
Just wait until the darkness falls so I can sin with you
You've run through the whole gamut of game play
the head trip parade
Without any experience
You become curious prey
So change your position
This decision you're making is digging a hole
Oh, and where you're headed only heaven knows
So, set out your plan,
Break down your walls
Count what you're blessed with
you've counted them all
it's something to say
but you have to search
you might not believe but
Believe me it works
She holds a key
Tight in her hand
Clutching his neck
She is begging her man
Listen you sinner
I'm sinning too
Just wait until the darkness falls so I can sin with you
She holds a key
Tight in her hand
Clutching his neck
She is begging her man
Listen you sinner
I'm sinning too
Just wait until the darkness falls so I can sin with you
She holds a key
Tight in her hand
Clutching his neck
She is begging her man
Listen you sinner
I'm sinning too
Just wait until the darkness falls so I can sin with you
The lyrics to Gavin DeGraw's song "She Holds A Key" describe a risky but thrilling affair that fills the singer with a sense of newfound excitement. The beginning of the song acknowledges the dance-worthy nature of the relationship and suggests that there are secrets being revealed in this new-found love. The singer takes note of the passion and the undeniable thrill that this relationship brings to his life. He feels like a new person in the light of this love. However, the song suggests that this excitement comes at a cost. The key that the woman holds tight in her hand symbolizes the power she has over him, clinging onto him as though he were her possession. The lyrics express how both parties are aware of their wrongdoing, hence the line 'Listen you sinner, I'm sinning too.' Despite the potential risks, the singer cannot resist the allurement of this affair, as he eagerly awaits the fall of darkness, waiting to sin with her.
As the song progresses, it becomes more informative about the risks associated with this relationship. The singer cautions his partner, urging them to change their position and acknowledge their wrongdoing. He warns them that they are digging a hole that they will find difficult to get out of if they continue their path of risk-taking. In the end, the singer suggests that they need a plan to break down their emotional walls and count their blessings before they dive further into this sinful affair.
Overall, the lyrics of "She Holds A Key" suggest that while the thrill of a risky love affair can be alluring and exciting, it can also lead to potentially dangerous situations. The key as a symbol of the girl holding the man tightly to her, despite their sinfulness of actions suggests that they could move towards being mutually dependent. The song seems to highlight the importance of considering the potential consequences of one's actions before diving headfirst into dangerous affairs, however alluring they may be.
