James won Ireland's answer to the Mercury (the Choice Music Prize for 'Song of the Year') and saw his debut EP ('Say Hello') remain on the Irish chart for over 6 months. This rise and development in his home market has gained James sell-out headline dates and wider support tours with the likes of Lianne La Havas, Beth Orton, Kodaline and Marina & The Diamonds.
A snapshot of this ascent, 'Live at Whelans' is a selection of new and old songs performed in the stripped-back environment of a rapturously-received hometown show. The first track to be lifted from it, 'Nervous', is a pin-drop account of a one-sided relationship: from that initial fear of your first meeting to the gradual realisation, by the end of the song, that perhaps they were never who you thought they were (and it's best to forget about them).
James released his eagerly-anticipated debut album, ‘Bitter Pill’ on March 11th 2016 – having already gone Top 5, been certified Platinum and winner of Choice Music Prize’s ‘Song of the Year’ in his native Ireland in 2013 and 2016. Following a sold-out London show at KOKO, support across Spotify (Spotlight Artists for 2016), Radio 1, Virgin Radio, Beats 1 and Radio X, Gavin had an extensive UK tour, European tour, US tour and Australian dates, that featured Shepherd’s Bush Empire on October 7th 2016 in London and 3Arena on December 2016 in Dublin. Gavin has over 150 million total streams on Spotify already and live performances on Late Late Show with James Corden, Jimmy Kimmel Live, BBC One Show and C’est A Vous.

Lately I've been losing,
If I don't want to go in the morning I'll stay in,
Some things you, Some things you can't explain,
Someone take me out the water, out of the rain,
Cos I just wanna come back again,
come back again,
The stars in your eyes disappear when you grow up,
And soon you'll reaslise when your down and you can't get up,
But I just wanna wait till, till the sun comes up,
Till the sun comes up,
So when your moving all you ever do is run,
You always say the worst is coming when the worst has come,
So when your feeling black and blue,
And when you think the whole world is falling down on you
with all the words that fly at you,
Oh but I just wanna wait till the sun comes up,
The stars in your eyes disappear when you grow up,
And soon you'll reaslise when your down and you can't get up,
But I just wanna wait till, till the sun comes up,
And o-o-o-oh I just wanna wait till, till the sun comes up,
Oh is a hard I find with this hide this love
Oh is a hard I find i think we should let this go
And this hide this love, they don't let you go
Oh but I just wanna wait till the sun comes up,
The stars in your eyes disappear when you grow up,
And soon you'll reaslise when your down and you can't get up,
But I just wanna wait till, till the sun comes up,
And o-o-o-oh I just wanna wait till, till the sun comes up
The lyrics of Gavin James's "Till The Sun Comes Up" is an emotional song that delves into a sense of loss and confusion. The opening line "Lately I've been losing" highlights the struggles of the singer who feels like they're losing control over their life. They're contemplating staying in bed in the morning as they're unable to find the motivation to face the day. The line "Some things you can't explain" suggests that there are certain things happening in their life that they don't fully understand or can't come to terms with.
The chorus, "Oh, I just wanna wait till the sun comes up, the stars in your eyes disappear when you grow up" is a poignant reminder that time is fleeting and people tend to lose the spark and innocence they had when they were younger. The lines "And soon you'll realize when you're down and you can't get up, but I just wanna wait 'til, 'til the sun comes up" is a message of hope that despite feeling low and powerless, things will eventually get better.
The second verse touches on the theme of running away from problems and always anticipating the worst. The line "And when you think the whole world is falling down on you with all the words that fly at you" reflects on the crippling self-doubt and anxiety that can come with challenging times. The final verse features a contradictory message where the singer wants to hide their love and also let it go, perhaps indicating the complexities of love and relationships.
