Belly of the Beast
Gazelle Twin Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I′ll beat them all at their at own game
Ah, ah
I'll beat them all at their at own game
Ah-ah, ah-ah
I′ll beat them all at their at own game
Bite the hands and the fingers that feed
I'll beat them all at their at own game
Swallowing it down, taking my time and
Ah-ah, ah-ah, ah-ah, ah-ah, ah-ah, ah-ah, ah-ah
The belly of the beast

I'm stuck in the belly of the beast

The belly of the beast
I′ll take it like milk from a baby
Ah, ah
I′ll take it like milk from a baby
Ah-ah, ah-ah
I'll take it like milk from a baby
Suck the teats and the nipples that feed
I′ll take it like milk from a baby
Swallowing it down, tasting that sweet thing

I'm stuck in the belly of the beast
I′m stuck in the belly of the beast
I'm stuck in the belly of the beast
Ah-ah, ah-ah
I′m stuck in the belly of the beast

Ah, la-la la-la la-la la, La la-la la-la la-la la
I'll take it like milk from a baby

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Belly of the Beast" by Gazelle Twin describe the feeling of being trapped and powerless in a dark and threatening environment, represented by the metaphor of the "beast". However, instead of surrendering to fear and defeat, the singer seems to adopt a rebellious and confrontational attitude, challenging her captors by promising to beat them at their own game. The repetition of the phrase "I'll beat them all at their own game" reinforces this determination, while the subsequent lines reveal the methods she is willing to use: "Bite the hands and the fingers that feed", "Suck the teats and the nipples that feed". These lines suggest a willingness to use even the most intimate and vulnerable parts of the beast's body against it, turning the tables on those who thought they had the upper hand.

The second part of the song continues this theme of defiance, as the singer declares that she will take what she wants "like milk from a baby". This image conveys a sense of easy victory and domination, as if the beast and its captors were no match for her. However, the final repetition of the phrase "I'm stuck in the belly of the beast" suggests that this bravado may be a facade, and that the singer is still a prisoner of the dark forces she is trying to confront. The final lines fade out with a haunting and dissonant melody, leaving the listener with the impression of an unresolved conflict between the singer and her oppressors.

Same here in 2021. Where has this music been for my entire life?

@axiom6031

I'll beat them all at their own game.

This album was meant to be a challenge. To all of the modern day pop music singers. Gazelle Twin used simple instruments and a fucking cash register to make something amazing.

@dontlookspins

King Harky Yeah, synths and drum machines are really simple instruments, right?

@axiom6031

Wasn't talking about those.
