1. GeeJay are a UK duo comprising singer Gina Jane (the "Gee") and classically-trained musician Jacob Lobo (the "Jay" - who has previously released solo material under the stage name Lóbo).
Jacob is a born and bred Londoner, while Gina originally hails from Gastard in Wiltshire. After Gina relocated to London to pursue her singing ambitions, she met Jacob in Harringay, North London, whilst working alongside him as a barista at Music & Beans, a café-cum-music school and shop at which they also taught music.
When writing music, each of them has a distinct contribution; while Jacob writes the saxophone melodies and all the chords and grooves, Gina writes all the lyrics and vocal melodies. By taking elements from soul and jazz and coupling it with the sounds of urban hip-hop, the duo have crafted their own style of music. The sleek, yet powerful vocals fit perfectly on top of the classy chords and groovy rhythms, whilst the saxophone adds melodic touches to the music.
Gina and Jacob’s shared love for soul, jazz, and funk music can clearly be heard in their music, and is also translated into their live show. On stage, the pair like to improvise segments of their songs on top of live looped grooves, which pays homage to their interest in the jazz genre of music.
