Besuchen Sie Europa
Geier Sturzflug Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The lyrics to Geier Sturzflug's song "Besuchen Sie Europa" (Visit Europe) describe a nightmarish scenario of a potential future where Europe becomes a battleground for military conflicts between different nations. The opening line sets the tone for the rest of the song: "When submarines anchor in the Canale Grande and missile launch ramps stand in St. Peter's Square in Rome." The second stanza continues this ominous tone, describing a "bomb carpet" floating over the Ankara bazaar and a Pershing 2 missile emerging from the hills of Olympus.
The chorus of the song serves as a warning message: "Then it's already too late, then, when nothing works anymore. Visit Europe while it's still standing." The following stanzas describe the potential destruction of some of Europe's most iconic landmarks, such as the Cologne Cathedral and the Eiffel Tower. The lyrics end with a commentary on the hedonistic culture of Europe, highlighting the idea that in times of conflict, the only thing left to enjoy will be the cultural richness of the continent.
Overall, the song's message is a call for people to appreciate the history and beauty of Europe before it's too late. It serves as a cautionary tale about the consequences of war and the fragility of our civilizations.
