Summers graduated from Duncanville High School in 1957 and attended Arlington State College, now known as the University of Texas at Arlington. That same year, he formed the rockabilly band The Rebels and performed on Joe Bill's Country Picnic on KRLD, where they were spotted by songwriter Jed Tarver. This led to the band being signed by newly-found Jan Records. Their first record was released on February 1, 1958, under the name of Gene Summers & His Rebels.

Goodbye Priscilla
Gene Summers Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
But before I do please let me know
That there's no one in your heart but me
And in your heart I'll always be
Bye bye baby blue
I'll be seeing you
Well, it seems our love was hit and run
Maybe it really was a crime
To want to have you all the time
Bye bye baby blue
I'll be seeing you
BRIDGE:
Bye bye baby blue
I hate to say goodbye
Bye bye baby blue
Must go before I cry
But before I go just hold me near
And that's all I ask from you my dear
Remember me whenever you can
And baby try to understand
Bye bye baby blue
Oh, I'll be seeing you
Goodbye Priscilla.
