Summers graduated from Duncanville High School in 1957 and attended Arlington State College, now known as the University of Texas at Arlington. That same year, he formed the rockabilly band The Rebels and performed on Joe Bill's Country Picnic on KRLD, where they were spotted by songwriter Jed Tarver. This led to the band being signed by newly-found Jan Records. Their first record was released on February 1, 1958, under the name of Gene Summers & His Rebels.

I'll Never Be Lonely
Gene Summers Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I'll have no heartaches, I'll know no fear
I will never be lonely, as long as I have you
The ocean tides, may ebb and flow
But in my heart, I'll always know
I will never be lonely, as long as I have you
The autumn leaves of golden splendor
May fall with winter's cold
But our love will be warm and tender
For you are mine to have and to hold
One precious moment, with you my love
Is like heaven, from above
I will never be lonely, as long as I have you
[Chorus]
One precious moment, with you my love
Is like Heaven, from above
I will never be lonely, as long as I have you
I will never be lonely, as long as I have you
I will never be lonely, as long as I have you.
Gene Summers's song "I'll Never Be Lonely" is a love song that expresses how the singer feels about his partner. The lyrics in the first stanza reveal that the singer is confident that whenever he is near his partner, he will be able to conquer his fears and not have to experience loneliness ever again. He emphasizes that even in the darkest hours, his partner's presence is more than enough to keep him going.
Moving on to the second stanza, the singer employs the use of a metaphor, using the ocean tides to represent the ebb and flow of life's situations. Despite the uncertainties of life, the singer asserts that his partner's love remains constant and will keep him from feeling lonely.
The chorus emphasizes the solidity of their love, likening it to the warmth and tenderness that will sustain them even in the coldest of seasons. The final verse serves as a repetition of the sentiments already expressed in the rest of the song, with the singer reiterating that just a moment with his partner fills him with heavenly bliss and that as long as they are together, he will never experience loneliness.
Overall, the song is a declaration of love and appreciation for a partner who has been there through thick and thin, providing love and warmth even in the darkest moments of life.
