Summers graduated from Duncanville High School in 1957 and attended Arlington State College, now known as the University of Texas at Arlington. That same year, he formed the rockabilly band The Rebels and performed on Joe Bill's Country Picnic on KRLD, where they were spotted by songwriter Jed Tarver. This led to the band being signed by newly-found Jan Records. Their first record was released on February 1, 1958, under the name of Gene Summers & His Rebels.

Someone Somewhere
Gene Summers Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Wants my love, my love
If I could, if she could, if we could
Start a love
A love that would last
Always, always
This Love that I find
And when she holds me
She'll say I love you
Because that my love, her love, our love
Will last
Until the end of time.
This Love that I find
Will always be true
And when she holds me
She'll say I love you
The lyrics to Gene Summers' song "Someone Somewhere" express a longing for love and the hope that the singer's love will be reciprocated by someone out there in the world. The song is an anthem to the search for a soulmate and the desire to build a lasting love. The repetition of the phrase "if I could, if she could, if we could" reinforces the idea that it takes two willing and committed partners to make a relationship work. The theme of love and the hope that it will last "until the end of time" is universal and timeless, resonating with listeners across generations.
The lyrics also suggest that once the singer finds the love he is seeking, it will be unshakeable and unwavering. The use of the word "always" emphasizes that this love will stand the test of time and endure through any obstacles that may come their way. The last verse repeats the sentiment that this love will always be true and that the singer's partner will proclaim their love for him. The simplicity of the lyrics and the straightforward melody reinforce the sincerity and purity of the singer's emotions.
