The lyrics of Gentleman's song Ina Different Time showcase the themes of violence, crime, and social injustice. The song talks about meeting again in a different time and place, not to be dismayed because the crime has already been committed. The lyrics seem to point to a sense of inevitability when it comes to violence and corruption in society. The repetition of "different time and place" also speaks to the cyclical nature of these issues where they continue to occur in various forms across history.
The song begins with the lines "And so we meet again ina different time, and place don't be dismayed. Your crime has been committed." These lines can be interpreted as the singer meeting the subject of the song once again after some time has passed. The lyrics suggest that the person has already committed a crime, and they are going to face the consequences now. The chorus repeats the lines "so we meet again ina different time and place don't be dismayed, your crime has already been committed," emphasizing the cyclical nature of the themes.
The lyrics also touch on issues related to social inequality and class struggle. Lines like "rich man have it all and poor people have none ya" and "before you take another life, I beg you to check your facts, make sure two holes you dig when you set your trap" highlight the problems of poverty and violence faced by marginalized groups in society. The song also speaks to the idea of resistance against oppressive systems, with lines like "nuff a dem a talk 'bout dem badman things but anytime we come, we come with good tidings."
Overall, Ina Different Time is a commentary on the state of society, particularly the issues of violence, crime, and social inequality. The lyrics suggest a sense of despair and cyclical nature of these issues, but also offer a message of hope and resistance against oppressive systems.
