Soldier
Gentri Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Look down and see the line engraven in the sand, will you retreat and hide or will you take a stand?
This battle is lost or won by the soldier.
You've felt the dragons' fire, the burning from within.
You've conquered every foe; you'll do it yet again.
The battle is lost or won by the soldier.

Fade to black; feed the spark, fan the flame, ignite.
Dig deep and find your fight, give all you've got to give this battle is to the death, courage raging.
Leave it all on the field, tomorrow's made today, ten thousand men can't break, the will of a soldier.

We will decide our fate among wounded slain.
We choose to live or die won't give our lives in vain.
We've chosen where we stand, we the soldier.

Fade to black; feed the spark, fan the flame, ignite.
Dig deep and find your fight give all you've got to give this battle is to the death, courage raging.

Leave it all on the field tomorrow's made today, ten thousand men can't break, the will of a soldier
Hear the call from within, fight to live, love will win.

Overall Meaning

The song "Soldier" by Gentri is a powerful anthem that speaks to the struggle and determination of the human spirit. The first verse presents a choice to the listener - will they give up and retreat, or will they stand their ground in the midst of a difficult battle? The lyrics emphasize the importance of the individual soldier in determining the outcome of a conflict. This idea is carried throughout the song, with lines like "this battle is lost or won by the soldier" and "ten thousand men can't break, the will of a soldier". The message is clear: the actions of one person can make all the difference.

The second verse of the song focuses on the strength of the soldier. They have faced challenges before and emerged victorious, and they will do so again. The lyrics use powerful imagery, with references to dragons' fire and a battle to the death. The chorus repeats the message of the first verse, urging the listener to dig deep and find their fight. It calls upon soldiers to leave everything they have on the field of battle, because tomorrow's outcomes are determined by today's actions.

The final verse of the song is perhaps the most poignant. It speaks to the idea of sacrifice and the willingness to give one's life for a cause. The line "we choose to live or die, won't give our lives in vain" is particularly meaningful. The song presents a heroic vision of soldiers as warriors who fight for what they believe in and are willing to pay the ultimate price. The final line offers a glimmer of hope in the midst of this darkness, with a call to "hear the call from within, fight to live, love will win."

I love that the song calls for each of us to take a stand, and sometimes have to fight the right fight! It is time, to do just that, for God and our beliefs, and our country, within. God's guidance is what sees us through!

@scootermom1791

You are so absolutely correct! We all need to take a stand and fight for our freedom now more than ever. Freedom from biased media reports spreading unfounded lies; freedom from uneducated people trying to turn our country into a socialist society; and mostly, freedom from people trying to force others to accept and allow lifestyles and beliefs that are against everything the founders of our blessed nation, and God, created.

@ObiWanFan30

This is our anthem. It’s time to take a stand!

@richardgage876

We're all soldiers,
fighting for our lives,
every day.

@SoapinTrucker

That's my take on it too! EVERYONE has a battle, AND, we need to all recognize, and remember, we, ourselves, are NOT alone! Respect each other, right? :)

@Swiftie20292

Exactly!!!! Everyone is going through their own situations and like for me I know I have a lot of health problems that i deal with on a day to day basis and it’s definitely hard. I remember just being in and out of the hospital a lot and gentri has inspired me to fight my fight,

@llewisdolphins

Powerful! I am proud to be one of God's soldiers. The good fight doesn't mean violence, harder to fight with love, but yes, love wins.

At first I could not understand your video because the people in it were not all soldiers. But as I listened more closely to the words I recognized that you were singing about all of us as, "We are all soldiers". We all fight battles everyday in our lives, we do draw lines in the sand, we make choices as we defeat the enemy, stand together, and show love to others. By the way I'm a veteran, thank you
