Evolution...Redefined
Geoff Moore And The Distance Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Darwin first did the imminent service of arousing attention to the
Probability of all change in organic, as well as in the inorganic world,
Being the result of law, and not of miraculous interposition
For all life is a continuum. All living things despite their awesome diversity
Are related to each other. And evolution is the term we give to that
Process, by which the structure of plants and animals changes with the
Passage of time thus accounting for the continuum
I was staring through the blackboard trying to keep from sleeping,
Doing my very best to hear the subject they were teaching.
When to my surprise, I couldn't my believe my ears,
This is what you looked like back a million years
Your uncle was a monkey, he was swinging through the trees,
He lived on green bananas, and his arms swung to his knees
He spoke with such conviction, it really made me think,
Maybe my teacher, He's the missing link!
He said...

I believe in evolution,
Ask me no questions, I'll tell you no lies.
It's the only possible solution,
Big Bang fiction, that we factualize

Therefore Crow Magnum Man!
It takes a lot of faith to say we're accidents of nature,
But I believe we are the work of a loving creator
Now you can wait a million years and hope that nature does it's part,
But it only takes a moment, for God to change a heart
That's why...

I believe in evolution,
Changing of the heart, renewing of the mind.
It's the only true solution,
God is always working, changing lives (changing lives),
It's evolution redefined

I used to trust in natural selection,
My survival was all I could see.
My evolving to perfection,
Started when God rescued me

I believe in evolution,
Changing of the heart, renewing of the mind.
It's the only true solution, God is always working,
Changing lives.
I believe in evolution,
Changing of the heart, renewing of the mind
It's the only true solution,
It's evolution redefined
I believe in evolution,
Changing of the heart, renewing of the mind
It's the only true solution, God is always working,
Changing lives.

I believe believe in evolution,

Changing of the heart, renewing of the mind,
It's the only true solution, It's evolution redefined

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Evolution...Redefined" by Geoff Moore And The Distance, explore the concept of evolution in both a scientific and spiritual sense. The first verse references Charles Darwin and his theory of evolution, suggesting that all life is part of a continuum and that evolution is the process by which the structure of plants and animals changes over time. As the song progresses, the lyrics shift to address the singer's personal beliefs about evolution and the dichotomy between science and faith.

The second verse describes a classroom scene where the singer's teacher is presenting the theory of evolution, and the singer becomes skeptical, wondering if the teacher himself could be the "missing link." The chorus declares the singer's belief in evolution and the changing of the heart and mind, indicating a shift towards a more spiritual interpretation of the term. The final verse reconciles science and faith, suggesting that the singer has come to believe in both evolution and a loving creator who can change lives in an instant.

Overall, the lyrics of "Evolution...Redefined" present a nuanced perspective on a complex scientific and spiritual concept, suggesting that evolution and faith are not mutually exclusive and that both play a role in shaping our understanding of the world.

Brings back so many memories. I even saw them perform live back at the time and it was a blast to hear this being sung

Great song! I've always liked it. I met Geoff Moore many years back at Northview Church in Abbotsford. He's much older now. (Aren't we all?) Lol

@williambenjamin9238

I love this song and video lol when I was a young teenager in England and literally everyone believed in evolution, and I was made to feel so dumb to not go along with what everyone else’s belief was, I was watching some religious satellite TV channel late one night and this played-I was so happy to see it! It genuinely encouraged me in my faith 😊

@skullo5557

I believe in it and am still a christian

@@skullo5557 eh…death before the Fall…going against the consensus of Church Fathers… nah

@skullo5557

The church fathers had no idea of germs either. They did not even have an idea of the earth revolving around the sun either. People can get things wrong

Love the 90's music videos where the band actually "magically" interacts with the main character of the drama in the song.
