In 2004, George Canyon competed in Nashville Star 2. He placed 2nd in the competition, but became very well known in Canada and garnered much support, being the only Canadian to make the cut for the competition. Since the competition has ended, he has received many accolades from fans and the industry alike. These include a number 1 hit about a still-born baby called "My Name," a Juno Award for Best Country Recording of the Year (for his album One Good Friend), and, most recently four Canadian Country Music Awards (CCMAs) including Male Vocalist of the Year and the Fan Choice Award.
Canyon is known for his support of SHARE (Share Pregnancy and Infant Loss Support, Inc. serves those whose lives are touched by the tragic death of a baby through early pregnancy loss, stillbirth, or in the first few months of life) and Animas Canada (company who makes insulin pumps, which George himself uses). His song "My Name" is reflective of why he has associated himself with SHARE.
George says:
"I co-wrote this song with Gordie Sampson from the perspective of an unborn baby. A close friend and his wife had a miscarriage, and I witnessed the pain they went through losing a baby. I wanted to write a song to help people cope with that trauma and somehow bring a positive light to the subject"

Let It Out
George Canyon Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Then it comes out in ways you hate yourself for
So baby let the truth fall from your eyes
It's okay, it's gunna be alright, it's gunna be alright
Let it out, let it all out
Don't hold back
Let it fall to the ground
Lay your head on my shoulder
Let it all fade away
Baby let it out
I'm not here to judge you
I won't say a word,
Just here to love you for all I'm worth
I kiss away your sadness
Never let you down
The time had come;
Baby, the time is now
Let it out, let it all out
Don't hold back
Let it fall to the ground
Lay your heard on my shoulder
I'm here for you right now
Let it all fade away
Baby let it out
Let it out, let it all out
Don't hold back
Let it fall to the ground,
Lay your head on my shoulder
I'm here for you right now
Whatever your heart needs,
Baby let it out
Ya just let it out
The lyrics of George Canyon's song "Let it Out" convey a message of emotional vulnerability and the importance of expressing one's feelings. The first stanza speaks of the consequences of holding in emotions until they boil over and manifest in ways that one may regret. The chorus urges the listener to release their emotions, to "let it all out," and find solace in the arms of someone who cares for them. The second stanza assures the listener that there is a safe space with the person they are sharing their emotions with, where they will not be judged but only loved, and where they can release their sadness by letting it out.
The song is an ode to the healing power of emotional expression and a reminder that it's okay to not be okay. The lyrics suggest that it takes courage to open up, to allow yourself to be vulnerable and expose what truly lies within. The song's message is supported by the gentle melody and the soothing voice of George Canyon, which make it a perfect comfort song for anyone going through a tough time.
