In 2004, George Canyon competed in Nashville Star 2. He placed 2nd in the competition, but became very well known in Canada and garnered much support, being the only Canadian to make the cut for the competition. Since the competition has ended, he has received many accolades from fans and the industry alike. These include a number 1 hit about a still-born baby called "My Name," a Juno Award for Best Country Recording of the Year (for his album One Good Friend), and, most recently four Canadian Country Music Awards (CCMAs) including Male Vocalist of the Year and the Fan Choice Award.
Canyon is known for his support of SHARE (Share Pregnancy and Infant Loss Support, Inc. serves those whose lives are touched by the tragic death of a baby through early pregnancy loss, stillbirth, or in the first few months of life) and Animas Canada (company who makes insulin pumps, which George himself uses). His song "My Name" is reflective of why he has associated himself with SHARE.
George says:
"I co-wrote this song with Gordie Sampson from the perspective of an unborn baby. A close friend and his wife had a miscarriage, and I witnessed the pain they went through losing a baby. I wanted to write a song to help people cope with that trauma and somehow bring a positive light to the subject"

Surrender
George Canyon Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The one the angels decided to hand down
For the beauty of the deeds that are forgiven
I surrender and I lay me down
For Michael and Gabriel who hold me
And the wings that make the silence of that sound
I surrender, I lay me down
For the letting go of all I hold so tightly
Releasing clouds and silver linings of my mind
Finding ways to see all of my horizons
For mothers and fathers who may guide
For the courage to breathe the words of fire and love
And looking out with freedom to abandon
And for the tender touch that comes when I stop to listen
I surrender, I lay me down
Breathing with the silence of this quality
The grace the angels decided to hand down
For the beauty of the deeds that are forgiven
I surrender and I lay me down
I surrender, I lay me down
I surrender, I lay me down
The lyrics to "Surrender" by George Canyon are a tribute to the power of release and surrender in the face of life's challenges. The opening line, "Waking to the silence of this quality," sets the mood for contemplation and introspection, while also suggesting a certain stillness or peace. The second line, "The one the angels decided to hand down," adds a spiritual dimension to the song, as if the singer is invoking a higher power or seeking guidance from beyond.
The idea of surrendering and laying down one's burdens is reinforced in the following lines, "For the beauty of the deeds that are forgiven, I surrender and I lay me down." This suggests a sense of gratitude and release, as if the singer is acknowledging the blessings and forgiveness in their life and letting go of any lingering guilt or regret. The reference to Michael and Gabriel, two prominent archangels in Christian theology, further adds to the spiritual undertone of the song, evoking a sense of protection and guidance from the divine.
The idea of letting go, both of external things and internal struggles, is repeated throughout the song, as the singer invokes the power of release and surrender to find a sense of peace and purpose. The final lines, "Breathing with the silence of this quality, The grace the angels decided to hand down, For the beauty of the deeds that are forgiven, I surrender and I lay me down," provide a sense of resolution and serenity, as if the singer has found peace and acceptance in their surrender.

@George Canyon LOL - nice try! Firstly, the real George Canyon would know how to spell his own name in his email address. Secondly he'd have the right birth year in his email address. Thirdly, he wouldn't be responding to a comment made 9 years ago!
