A Rose and a Baby Ruth
George Hamilton IV Lyrics

Doo, doo, doo, doo
Doo, doo, doo, doo

We had a quarrel
A teenage quarrel
Now I'm as blue as I know how to be
I can't call you on the phone
I can't even see you at your home

So I'm sending you this present
Just to prove that I'm telling the truth
Dear, I believe you won't laugh when you receive
This rose and a Baby Ruth

(Doo, doo, doo, doo)
(Doo, doo, doo, doo)
(Doo, doo, doo, doo, ahh)

I could have sent you an orchid of some kind
But that's all I had in my jeans at the time

But when we grow up
Some day I'll show up
Just to prove I was telling the truth
I'll kiss you, too, then I'll hand to you
This rose and a Baby Ruth

(Doo, doo, doo, doo)
(Doo, doo, doo, doo)
(Doo, doo, doo, doo, ooh)

This song marks the beginnings of me... sort of.  My parents went to a dance, each with their own dates... their dates kept dancing with each other to the fast songs and then this song came on.  My Dad asked my Mom to dance and began singing this song in her ear....   they just celebrated their 56th Anniversary.  Thanks George... RIP.

Cool song and a great story.

@maria Carter Ain't it, though!?! I didn't get my Dad's voice... If I would have tried something like this, I'd still be single. This coming February 12th will be their 64th Anniversary. (this is N8tiveAustin...)

I didn't realise, until now George was putting out records in the 1950's. I discovered him in the 1960's. He does this song well. The writer John D Loudermilk, was certainly a prolific penner of catchy tunes as wel as being a singer in his own right.

Collin Riley

This was a revelation to me. I have a folk album of his, but didn't know he went so far back.

A pure and true teenage love song !!
