Amating On You All
George Harrison Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You don't need no love in
You don't need no bed pan
You don't need a horoscope or a microscope
The see the mess that you're in
If you open up your heart
You will know what I mean
We've been polluted so long
Now here's a way for you to get clean

By chanting the names of the Lord and you'll be free
The Lord is awaiting on you all to awaken and see
Chanting the names of the Lord and you'll be free
The Lord is awaiting on you all to awaken and see

You don't need no passport
And you don't need no visas
You don't need to designate or to emigrate
Before you can see Jesus
If you open up your heart
You'll see he's right there
Always was and will be
He'll relieve you of your cares

By chanting the names of the Lord and you'll be free
The Lord is awaiting on you all to awaken and see
Chanting the names of the Lord and you'll be free
The Lord is awaiting on you all to awaken and see

You don't need no church house
And you don't need no Temple
You don't need no rosary beads or them books to read
To see that you have fallen
If you open up your heart
You will know what I mean
We've been kept down so long
Someone's thinking that we're all green

And while the Pope owns fifty one percent of General Motors
And the stock exchange is the only thing he's qualified to quote us

The Lord is awaiting on you all to awaken and see
By chanting the names of the Lord and you'll be free

Overall Meaning

The song 'Awaiting On You All' by George Harrison is a spiritual song that talks about the idea of finding inner peace and freedom through chanting the names of the Lord. The song starts by emphasizing that in order to find peace, one does not need love or material possessions but must open their heart to realize the chaos of their life. By chanting the names of the Lord, one can cleanse their mind, body, and soul. The song also emphasizes that people do not need to belong to a particular religion or visit a church or temple to find peace. The song tries to convey the message that the Lord is within everyone and by chanting the Lord's name, one can find salvation and peace.

The song also contains references to political and religious systems, questioning their priorities and motives. The lyrics "while the Pope owns fifty-one percent of General Motors and the stock exchange is the only thing he's qualified to quote us" highlights how religious and political leaders prioritize material wealth over people's spiritual and emotional needs. Through the song, George Harrison also emphasizes that peace and liberation can be achieved through spiritual practices such as chanting regardless of religious or cultural affiliations.

I was going through a rough period many years ago, and I read George Harrison's biography "Dark Horse "
And in there he gave the Maha mantra
( the great mantra for deliverance)
Hare Krishna
Hare Krishna
Krishna Krishna
Hare Hare
Hare Rama
Hare Rama
Rama Rama
Hare Hare
So he said " chant and be happy "
So I used to chant this mantra in my mind at first ....being shy , even at work.
Then slowly but surely so many amazing and auspicious things started happening .....truly saved my life, 25 Years later I am still chanting the mantra as part of my meditation .
So as he said the... proof is in the pudding !

[Verse 1]
Sunrise doesn't last all morning
A cloudburst doesn't last all day
Seems my love is up and has left you with no warning
It's not always gonna be this gray

[Chorus]
All things must pass
All things must pass away

[Verse 2]
Sunset doesn't last all evening
A mind can blow those clouds away
After all this, my love is up and must be leaving
It's not always gonna be this gray

[Chorus]
All things must pass
All things must pass away

[Bridge]
All things must pass
None of life's strings can last
So, I must be on my way and face another day

[Verse 3]
Now the darkness only stays at nighttime
In the morning it will fade away
Daylight is good at arriving at the right time
It's not always gonna be this gray

[Chorus]
All things must pass
All things must pass away
All things must pass
All things must pass away

Oh! George your are gorgeous
Way you slide the guitar,
we really wonder what you are!
You radiate more than a pulsar.
You carved something deep,
in the barks of our hearts,
Coz your songs are too infectious.
Oh George, you’re gorgeous.

Oh George, you’re gorgeous.
Way you strum each and every chord,
It makes me closer to my sweet lord,
Your tunes are mystically augmented.
Your voice is unparalleled and lyrics truely unprecedented.
It’s all too much contagious,
oh! George you are gorgeous.
We are brainwashed with your music!!!

LYRICS:
Sunrise doesn't last all morning
A cloudburst doesn't last all day
Seems my love is up
And has left you with no warning
But it's not always going
To be this grey

All things must pass
All things must pass away

Sunset doesn't last all evening
A mind can blow those clouds away
After all this my love is up
And must be leaving
But it's not always going
To be this grey

All things must pass
All things must pass away
All things must pass

None of life's strings can last
So I must be on my way
And face another day
Now the darkness only stays at night time
In the morning it will fade away

Daylight is good
At arriving at the right time
But it's not always going
To be this grey

All things must pass
All things must pass away
All things must pass
All things must pass away

My ex-husband was a huge Beatles fan. He knew every word to every song on every album and had a big collection of vinyl albums. It's one of the things that made me fall in love with him. He was the love of my life. But he was a hopeless alcoholic and I reached a point I could no longer live with it. After our divorce, he moved to an apartment a few blocks away and I continued to help him as the disease was slowly killing him. In the end, I found him deceased in his apartment. When I went to clean it out, on his turntable was the album "All Things Must Pass". I know that was a final message to me. RIP Chuck and George.

May he rest, and inspire ✌️❤️

Sad story, I can image Chuck in his drunken state singing along, knowing he was perhaps too far along the road, to turn around himself. Where ever he maybe, I hope he’s in happier times and you feel comfort in life.. thanks for sharing… much love from Scotland 💙🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
