If Not for You
George Harrison Lyrics

If not for you
Babe, I couldn't even find the door
I couldn't even see the floor
I'd be sad and blue, if not for you

If not for you
Babe, the night would see me wide awake
The day would surely have to break
It would not be new, if not for you
If not for you, my sky would fall
Rain would gather, too
Without your love I'd be nowhere at all
I'd be lost, if not for you

If not for you
The winter would hold no spring
Couldn't hear a robin sing
I just wouldn't have a clue, if not for you

If not for you, my sky would fall
Rain would gather, too
Without your love I'd be nowhere at all
I'd be lost, if not for you

If not for you
The winter would hold no spring
Couldn't hear a robin sing
I just wouldn't have a clue, if not for you

If not for you

Beautiful.
I met. 'The Fixx' almost
the same way.
The lead singer asked me
for a cigarette.
I offered him my last one.
He said I can't take your last one?
I said when that happens?
Time to buy another pack.
I could tell he really appreciated
that.
When he asked me if I'd ever
heard of 'The Fixx'
I told him the truth.
I hadn't.
But I had heard of a song
by them and didn't know it.
NYC in 1984 at a Dance Club.
Yes, meeting Rockers
informally is interesting.
I also met Keith Haring
before he became famous.
He showed me his art work
and I showed him my writing.
Life does have some interesting
twists and turns, doesn't it?

@Blaze T The message is this: YOU CAN DO THIS.

I drank EVERY DAY for 45 years . . . sometimes more, sometimes less, but most certainly EVERY SINGLE DAY . . . with at most a week off.

My numerous attempts to quit were futile . . . I tried CBT, groups blah blah blah but finally, I just got desperately scared and realized: THIS CAN KILL ME. So one night, I said to myself: This is my LAST BEER.

I am not kidding you . . . the next day, I just said: I'm not going to drink today. I don't know about tomorrow, but TODAY, I'M NOT GOING TO DRINK.

On October 5, 2020, it will be five years since I drank that last beer . . .

Listen to me: IT IS HARD. There will be very, very tempting times . . . but IT CAN BE DONE. I did not need God, I did not need AA, I did not need groups or therapy or psychiatry . . . I just needed myself—and my friends, and family, who did not mock me or challenge me or say it couldn't be done . . .

Blaze, the key is simple (yet so hard): Just: TODAY, I WILL NOT DRINK. I don't know about tomorrow—that's a whole different story. But TODAY— . . . you see how that works?

Obviously it IS a little more complicated than that . . . but I believe I have a system that can help you to STAY QUIT (stopping is easy—STAYING stopped is hard) . . . it can be done and you don't need anyone else's help to do it but I am loving proof that a heavy lifelong drinker can quit and stay quit for many, many years in a row.

I seriously don't know about tomorrow or next year or ten years from now but today, I choose not to drink.

If you need any help you can reach me at nickr@bell.net. That goes for anyone, really.

GOOD LUCK.

Nick

Se Não Fosse por Você

Se não fosse por você
Querida, eu não poderia achar a porta
Eu nem ao menos poderia ver o chão
Eu seria triste e abatido se não fosse por você

Se não fosse por você
Querida, a noite me veria totalmente acordado

Should have been a number one hit song. This is so good.

I think ONJ's version made the top 20 in U.S. Dylan's version is very folky. George is somewhere in between the two but my favorite version and I think the only song off of ATMP that George had no songwriting credit.

Great song!!!

@Club Astro Transcendental Motor that's subjective

Magilla Gorilla Newton John’s version was not a true #1 hit single. It was on some random chart not the US Billboard one. Bob Dylan’s original version didn’t even chart and his version, as much as I love this George cover of it, is still the best version.

@You are correct But : I understand what you say and you are right. That said, George Harrison has displayed exceptional musical qualities in this cover, as Phil Spector did. Greetings for France 😊😉.

You are correct But

Lots of Dylan’s songs are like that. Hendrix, the Byrds and others did sing them better. IMHO Dylan’s voice and performances were fairly ordinary in the early and mid years and atrocious in the last few decades. I went to a concert of his twenty years ago. It was unbelievably terrible in my opinion. And this is coming from a Dylan fan who thinks he deserved his Nobel prize.

@Carl Ranger I like Georges but I like Olivias too! I heard Olivia did not like to sing that song. It was one of her best hits!!
