Let id down
George Harrison Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Though you sit in another chair, I can feel you here
Looking like I don't care, but I do, I do
Hiding it all behind anything I see
Should someone be looking at me

While I occupy my mind, I can feel you here
Love to us is so well timed, and I do, I do
Wasting away these moments so heavenly
Should someone be looking at me

Let it down, let it all down
Let your hair hang all around me
Let it down, let it down
Let your love flow and astound me

While you look so sweetly and divine, I can feel you here
I see your eyes are busy kissing mine, and I do, I do
Wondering what it is they're expecting to see
Should someone be looking at me

Let it down, let it all down
Let your hair hang all around me
Let it down, let it down
Let your love flow and astound me

Let it down, let it down, oh

Let it down, let it down, oh
Let it down, let it down, oh

Overall Meaning

In "Let It Down" by George Harrison, the singer speaks about the weight he carries from holding back his emotions for someone who is not present with him at the moment. He can sense their presence, but they are in a different place. He tries to hide his feelings but deep down, he cares for this person. He occupies his mind to escape the emotions he feels, yet he knows they are in tune with their love. Throughout the song, the singer urges the object of his affections to let it all down and let their love flow. He believes that people are always watching, waiting for them to make a move or to show their love to one another.

Let me in here, I know I've been here
Let me into your heart
Let me know you, let me show you
Let me roll it to you

All I have is yours
All you see is mine
And I'm glad to hold you in my arms
I'd have you anytime

Let me say it, let me play it
Let me lay it on you
Let me know you, let me show you
Let me grow upon you

All I have is yours
All you see is mine
And I'm glad to hold you in my arms
I'd have you anytime

Let me in here, I know I've been here
Let me into your heart

Only a few artists were able to describe what love feels like. Harrison was the king of that style of writing.

@M D  What's more important, the material wishes and failings of a human, or the lessons and legacy they leave behind? Alan Watts was a heavy smoker, drinker and an irresponsible father by many accounts, but his influence and spiritual teachings meant more than any of that stuff. Inner and outer realms, my friend, is the trip. If you're focusing more on his failings (which every human has) rather than the love he was trying to convey, you've missed the point! All love.

@M D I think that line meant “everything we see is ours, life, love” that he’s not exclusive in that regard.
He’s letting us know that it’s ours & there for the taking.
But I wasn’t in his or Bob’s head that day.

@Sunndog57 we all see the things we wish to see. You can still crave money and be generous with it, or better still have little money and be generous with it. One question though, was George offering up his belongings to his wife or the many girls on the side? My very first original point was, these kind of deep messages must come from an example of truth and honesty within a relationship with your partner. Still love George though. Peace to you too.

I am 59, and having been a Beatle fan, but grew into a listener of Steely Dan, Yes, Pink Floyd and such!
However, my first time listening to this song from All Things Must Pass was yesterday. This song holds it's own with anything I have heard in my life time. Very nice! I will be buying the vinyl very soon.
