Two Sleepy People
George Siravo and His Orchestra Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Here we are, out of cigarettes,
Holding hands and yawning,
Look how late it gets.
Two sleepy people by dawn's early light,
And too much in love to say goodnight.

Here we are, in a cozy chair;
Pickin' on a wishbone from the frigidaire.
Two sleepy people with nothing to say,
And too much in love to break away.

Do you remember the nights we used to linger in the hall?
Your father didn't like me at all.
Do you remember the reason why we married in the fall?
To rent this little nest and get a bit of rest.

Well, here we are just about the same,
Foggy little fella, drowsy little dame.

Two sleepy people by dawn's early light,
And too much in love to say goodnight.

Overall Meaning

The song "Two Sleepy People" by George Siravo and His Orchestra is a romantic ballad that depicts a couple who are so much in love that they are willing to stay awake to spend time with each other even though they are incredibly tired. This is expressed in the first few lines of the first verse where the couple is out of cigarettes, holding hands and yawning, and realizing how late it is getting. The couple is so wrapped up in each other that they can't bear to say goodnight even though it is the early hours of the morning. The second verse shows the couple sitting in a cozy chair and picking on a wishbone from the refrigerator. Despite having nothing to say to each other, they are still too much in love to break away from one another. The lyrics are poetic, and the metaphor of the wishbone symbolizing their relationship adds depth to the song's romantic theme.

The bridge of the song recalls memories of how they married to rent a little nest to get some rest, which suggests that the couple has been together for a long time. The line "foggy little fella, drowsy little dame" in the last verse is humorous, and it portrays the couple's physical state after being up for so long. However, the phrase "two sleepy people by dawn's early light, and too much in love to say goodnight" reminds us that their love is unwavering and enduring despite their physical exhaustion. The song is about the enduring power of love, which can withstand challenging times.

Perfeito. What a LIVING STEREO

@JorgeVergaraV.
