Epilogue
George the Poet Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Take a step back, try and read the signs
You paid the price, looking for the cheapest flights
But you made the right booking for the sleepless nights
If you're still intrigued, don't hold me responsible
Leave your conscience at the outlets indicated
You ain't drowsy, baby, you've been sedated
Just don't end up like the rest of them
In the song Epilogue, George the Poet is offering advice to the listener. He advises that they take a step back and try to read the signs around them. It seems that the listener has gone through some struggles or has been on a difficult journey, as indicated by the line "You paid the price, looking for the cheapest flights." However, the listener has made the right choices for their sleepless nights, meaning that they have made smart decisions to get where they are now.
But George also warns the listener not to become like others who have fallen victim to the things that the place they are in has "instigated." The listener shouldn't rely on George or anyone else to be responsible for them; rather, they should take accountability for their own choices and be aware of the consequences that may come with them. The outro of the song features a spoken word poem by George about the importance of perspective and acknowledging the privilege one has.
Overall, the song is a call to action for the listener to take control of their own lives and make the choices that will lead them down a positive path. It's a reminder that while our surroundings can influence us, ultimately we have the power to make our own decisions and create our own destiny.
