Moustaki was born Yussef Mustacchi on the 3rd May 1934 in Alexandria, Egypt, of Sephardic Jewish parents who had moved there from Corfu, and who ran a bookshop in the city. The family spoke Italian at home, but Georges (then Yussef) spoke Arabic with his friends and attended a French school to which his Francophile parents sent him and his sisters. In 1951 he moved to Paris, where he was inspired by the young Georges Brassens, in honour of whom he changed his name to Georges Moustaki.
Moustaki wrote and sang in French, Italian, Greek, Spanish, English, Yiddish, and Arabic. Early influences included Edith Piaf, with whom Moustaki carried on a year-long romance. His pan-national approach to music made him a star in Europe in the late sixties and early seventies.
He died on the 23rd May 2013 in Nice, France.

The lyrics of the song “Le Temps De Vivre” by Georges Moustaki is a beautiful ode dedicated to enjoying the present moment by taking the time to live life to the fullest, free from established patterns and everyday routines. The song encourages living in the moment and being open to all the possibilities that life has to offer. The lyrics speak of the freedom that comes from having no plans, allowing oneself to dream and live without borders. The singer reassures his lover that anything is possible and that they have the power to make any changes they desire in their lives, and that the month of May with all its magic can serve as a catalyst for change.
The song speaks about the importance of living in the present, a sentiment that is perhaps more relevant today than ever before. The lyrics inspire listeners to let go of the past, not worry about the future, and focus on the beauty of the present moment. The poem also captures the essence of the spring season, where everything feels new, fresh and full of possibilities. The lyrics provide a sense of hope, urging people to seize the day, and live life to their fullest potential.

Lyrics in english:
We will take the time to live,
To be free, my love
Without plans and without habits
We will be able to dream our lives
Come, I'm here, I'm only awaiting for you
Everything's possible, everything's allowed
Come, listen to those words vibrating
On the month of May's walls
They're telling us the certitude
That everything can change one day
Come I'm here, I'm only awaiting for you
Everything's possible, everything's allowed
We will take the time to live,
To be free, my love
Without plans and without habits
We will be able to dream our lives
