You'll never know just how much I care
And if I tried, I still couldn't hide my love for you
You ought to know, for haven't I told you so
A million or more times?
You went away and my heart went with you
I speak your name in my every prayerIf there is some other way to prove that I love you
I swear I don't know how
You'll never know if you don't know now
(You went away and my heart went with you
I speak your name in my every prayer)
If there is some other way to prove that I love you
I swear I don't know how
You'll never know if you don't know now
You'll never know if you don't know now
The song "You'll Never Know" by Georgie Auld is a love ballad that expresses the sentiment of unrequited love. The lyrics are about someone who deeply misses and cares for their loved one, but has never been able to express their true feelings. The first verse expresses the singer's regret and longing, as they say that their beloved will never know how much they miss them and how much they care. The second verse reveals the extent to which the singer is consumed by their love, as they say that their heart went away with their beloved and they speak their name in every prayer. The final verse is a plea for the beloved to recognize the depth of the singer's feelings: "If there is some other way to prove that I love you, I swear I don't know how. You'll never know if you don't know now."
The repetition of the phrase "You'll never know" underscores the central theme of the song, which is the singer's frustration at not being able to express their love, and the fear that their feelings will never be reciprocated. This sentiment is further emphasized by the melancholy melody and slow tempo of the song, which creates a sense of yearning and longing.
Overall, "You'll Never Know" is a poignant and heartfelt love song that speaks to the universal experience of unrequited love. The lyrics are simple but powerful, and the melody and delivery of the song perfectly capture the emotional depth of the sentiment.
