During the 1980s and early 1990s, Levert scored big hits with "Pop, Pop, Pop, Pop (Goes My Mind)", "Casanova", and "ABC-123" (not to be confused with the Jackson Five hit of the same name). As a solo artist, Gerald's hits included "I'd Give Anything (to Fall in Love)", "You Got That Love", and "Mr. Too Damn Good to You".
Gerald and Eddie collaborated together on many different occasions, and they recorded an album called Father and Son together.
Gerald Levert also sang the chorus on the Chris Rock spoken-word comedy piece, "No Sex (In the Champagne Room)".
In 2005, Levert's daughter Carlysia was featured on an episode of MTV's My Super Sweet Sixteen.
Levert passed away due to an apparent heart attack on November 10, 2006. Sister 2 Sister magazine reported that Gerald and his father had just returned from a 10-day trip to South Africa where they had met with Nelson Mandela and were treated like royalty. Upon Gerald's return, he was excited about his upcoming album, which is due early in 2007. Gerald died in his sleep.

Had to work and
Boss keeps yellin' at me
What a jerk and
Home is killin' me too
It's the worst 'cause
Kids done got out of school
On my nerves and
Countdown
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday (to the weekend yeah)
I'm going out (I'm going out)
Oh, I'm going out
I'm poppin' collars, dropping dollars, it's the weekend
Can't stop me now, can't nobody stop me now
DJ, DJ don't play no slow jam
I wanna dance, clap my hands, see some ass shake
DJ, DJ don't play no slow jam
After the club I'll make love my own way
One or two would be cool
To get my grind on
But I need a good groove
I wanna lose control
Steppin' and gettin crunk too
Am I worthy?
Marvin or Luther would do
But I wanna get dirty
Countdown
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday (to the weekend yeah)
I'm going out
Ooh, I'm going out
I'm poppin' collars, dropping dollars, it's the weekend
Can't stop me now, can't nobody stop me now
DJ, DJ don't play no slow jam
I wanna dance, clap my hands, see some ass shake
DJ, DJ don't play no slow jam
After the club I'll make love my own way
DJ don't play no slow jam
I wanna dance, clap my hands, see some ass shake
DJ, DJ don't play no slow jam
After the club I'll make love my own way
Oh DJ, DJ, DJ, DJ
Oh, DJ, DJ, oh, DJ, Mister DJ
DJ, don't play no slow jam
I wanna dance, clap my hands, see some as shake
DJ, don't play no slow jam
After the club I'll make love my own way

The song "DJ Don't" by Gerald Levert is a catchy and upbeat track about letting loose and having a good time after a long and stressful week. The opening lyrics set the tone for the song, as Levert sings about the hardships of his week, including a difficult boss and family stress. However, he is determined to push through and enjoy his weekend to the fullest.
The countdown of the weekdays leading up to the weekend serves as a buildup to the chorus, where Levert proclaims his excitement for going out and having a good time. He specifically requests that the DJ not play any slow songs, as he wants to dance and see some "ass shake". Levert's desire for a good groove and losing control is contrasted with the references to Marvin Gaye and Luther Vandross, who are known for their more romantic and slow-tempo songs.
Overall, "DJ Don't" is a fun and carefree song about enjoying life and letting loose. The lyrics encourage listeners to forget their worries and have a good time, which is fitting for the upbeat and danceable tempo of the song.
