Glitch
Get Dead Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Well I'd die for this in a second
Wouldn't change anything at all
Push a knife right through my heart
Well it's been a good run
A pleasure meeting your acquaintance
We smoked it to the filter
'Til the wheels came off
Then Chris caught a greyhound bus back to Florida
Mike and Andy headed the boat towards those Bremerton lights
Patrick caught a red eye flight midwest by morning time
We ride the radio waves into the bay tonight

When it's all over, it's so quite
Can't sleep without the tv on
My life without the night lights of the Econoline
Familiar walls and messy feelings
A collection of reasons to be leaving again
Why even try?

Drunk again, smoking in the bathroom of a terminal
Cursing my own name for the mess I'm in
Ignored your phone call this morning

I'm sure it was to say it's all over again
So I'll ride these radio waves into the bay tonight

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Get Dead's song "Glitch" capture a sense of nihilism and resignation, as the singer reflects on the end of a journey or phase of their life. The opening lines express an almost romantic devotion to the experience that is ending, claiming that the singer would die for it without hesitation. They go on to suggest that even if they had the chance to change something, they wouldn't, perhaps implying that the ups and downs of the experience were all part of its value. The image of pushing a knife through their heart underscores the intensity of this feeling.

Next, the song moves on to specific details about the end of the journey. The singer mentions the various directions their companions have gone in, painting a picture of people scattering after a shared experience. The line "We smoked it to the filter" suggests that they pushed the experience to the limit, and perhaps overdid it. The use of the word "pleasure" in describing the encounter with the listener suggests that it was enjoyable, but the final phrase "Til the wheels came off" connotes a sense of decay or failure.

The final verse is focused on the aftermath of the experience. The singer is grappling with feelings of disorientation and uncertainty, unable to sleep without the TV on and contemplating another departure. The image of the "night lights of the Econoline" suggests that this was a journey on the road, and the "messy feelings" indicate that it was an emotional one as well. The final line "So I'll ride these radio waves into the bay tonight" brings the song to a quiet and melancholy end, with the singer accepting that they have no choice but to move on.

I can't put this album down. Every track is worth a listen. Excellent work.

Get dead is SO different from everything else out there

@TomTomTomTom538

And yet their influences can be pretty clearly heard. They sound like all my favourite bands had a baby

@AdamnSonn

Was just gonna comment something like that. I can't get tired of listening to them. I think it's cos they're genuine and don't give a fuck, especially Sam King.

@TomTomTomTom538

@@AdamnSonn yeah for me me the most appealing factor in music is honesty. Any artists that make songs about their true experiences and hard times and vulnerability hit me hard

@markmartin8211

They remind me a lot of Choking Victim.

@Matt-mr6vj

@@TomTomTomTom538 Honesty and passion. Rare in todays music.

@guerrillapress77

So what'd you think of the album now that it's out? Since I saw the pepper spray video I've been waiting for this, imo it didn't disappoint, far from it. These guys have gotten better over the years, but were good from the jump. Kudos to Fat Wreck Chords for signing these guys. I think they're in good hands at Fat. Cheers!
