Pilot
Get Up and Go Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Should have tried better
Could have made it so much better tonight
Oh, but the room, it was icy cold
Maybe tomorrow night
All of last summer could have sworn
I had a number to write
Oh, but the room, it was icy cold
Maybe tomorrow night
Get up and go,
and listen to the one man show

* Nobody else got a hope in the world,
gotta open the world
In time, in rhyme,
it’s better to believe in mine
Nobody else got a hope in the world,
gotta open the world

Should have known better
Could have sworn I had the number to write
Oh, but the moon, it was icy cold
Maybe tomorrow night
All of last summer,
I was singin’ everyday of my life
Maybe I’ll sing in the morning light
Or maybe tomorrow night
Get up and go and listen to the radio

Repeat *x2

Get up and go and listen to the radio

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Pilot" by Get Up and Go revolve around missed opportunities and regrets of the past. The first stanza begins with the singer acknowledging that they could have done better and made things better, but the icy cold room held them back. They mention the number they had to write, which could symbolize an opportunity they missed. Throughout the song, they mention the phrase "maybe tomorrow night," which shows a glimmer of hope that they will try again.

The chorus talks about the importance of believing in oneself and taking action to make it in the world. The repetition of "nobody else got a hope in the world" emphasizes that it is up to the individual to create their own opportunities and stand out from the crowd. The phrase "get up and go" serves as a motivator to not stay stagnant and take chances.

The second stanza echoes the first, with the singer regretting not knowing better and missing the chance to write the number. They mention singing every day of their life all through last summer, yet they still hesitate to sing now. The final line of the song, "get up and go and listen to the radio," brings everything back full circle. The radio can symbolize a source of inspiration and motivation for the singer.

Overall, "Pilot" is a song about missed opportunities and the importance of not giving up. It encourages listeners to take action and believe in themselves.

Melodies were nicer in the 70's and recording arrangements and quality were miles ahead of where they are now. Even the punk bands had melody.

Your right there. At the time I bought anything ranging from Abba to the Sex Pistols ! So much choice we were spoilt back then.

Guitar solos in the 70’s were well constructed, just the amount of notes enough for a nice phrasing, complete
