Last Christmas

I gave you my heart
But the very next
Day you gave it away
This year,
To save me from tears
I′ll give it to
Someone special
I gave you my heart
But the very next
Day you gave it away
This year,
To save me from tears
I'll give it to
Someone special
Once bitten and twice shy
I keep my distance
But you still catch my eye
Tell me, baby
Do you recognize me?
Well, it′s been a year
It doesn't surprise me
(Merry Christmas!)
I wrapped it up and sent it
With a note saying,
"I love you,
" I meant it
Now, I know
What a fool I've been
But if you kissed me now
I know you′d fool me again
Last Christmas,
I gave you my heart
But the very next
Day you gave it away
This year,
To save me from tears
I′ll give it to
Someone special
Last Christmas,...
In Getter Jaani's song Last Christmas, we hear a story of heartbreak and the struggle to move on from it. The singer speaks of how they gave their heart to someone last Christmas, only for that person to give it away the very next day. This year, the singer promises to give their heart to someone special to save themselves from more tears. The lyrics speak to the challenges of trusting someone again after being hurt and the difficulty of moving on from a past love.
The singer talks about being "once bitten and twice shy," meaning that they have been hurt before and are hesitant to get hurt again. They keep their distance from the person who hurt them, but still notice them and wonder if they recognize the singer. The singer admits that they sent a heartfelt note to the person last Christmas, confessing their love, but they now realize they were foolish to do so. Despite this, the singer confesses that if the person were to kiss them now, they would fall for them again.
This song illustrates the common experience of heartbreak and the difficulty of moving on from it. It also shows the struggle of being vulnerable with someone you love, only to have your heart broken. The lyrics speak to anyone who has gone through a similar experience and can relate to the singer's feelings.
