From the Pinnacle to the Pit
Ghost Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You have the power
You wear the crown
From the pinnacle to the pit
It is a long way down

You wield the scepter
You wear the gown
From the pinnacle to the pit
It is a long way down

In your empire
They stare and frown
From the pinnacle to the pit
It is a long way down

You are cast out from the heavens to the ground
Blackened feathers falling down
You are cast out from the heavens to the ground
Blackened feathers falling down
You will wear your independence like a crown

Cruciger globus
You stand your ground
The orb disfigured
What's flat looks round
From the pinnacle to the pit
It is a long way down

You are cast out from the heavens to the ground
Blackened feathers falling down
You are cast out from the heavens to the ground

Blackened feathers falling down
You will wear your independence like a crown

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Ghost's "From the Pinnacle to the Pit" are about a powerful and dominant figure who holds a high position in society. The lyrics describe the individual as wearing a crown, wielding a scepter, and donning a gown, symbolizing their power and authority. The first verse describes the individual being at the pinnacle, or the highest point of their reign, but the lyrics quickly take a dark turn, warning that "it is a long way down" to the pit, or the lowest point. The second verse furthers this imagery, describing how onlookers may stare and frown upon the individual's rule, warning that they will eventually fall.

The chorus reinforces the theme of downfall even further, depicting the figure being cast out from the heavens to the ground, with blackened feathers falling down, suggesting the individual is being cast down from their position of power. Despite this, the final line of the chorus provides a sense of resilience, stating "you will wear your independence like a crown," implying that the individual will continue to maintain their sense of self and pride even as they fall.

The bridge of the song shifts the perspective slightly, using the Latin phrase "Cruciger globus" to describe the individual. This phrase can be translated to mean "cross-bearing orb," which can symbolize power and authority, but also religious significance. Additionally, the lyrics reference the orbus figure, which can refer to the shape of the Earth, further emphasizing the idea that even the highest figure will eventually fall.

Overall, "From the Pinnacle to the Pit" is a cautionary tale about the dangers of power and how even the mightiest figures will eventually face a downfall.

So, when learning this bass line, I realized that half the time the 6th fret is played, it is played 3 times in a row, so the tab spells "6 6 6". While I think it's just a neat coincidence, I wouldn't be surprised if this was on purpose, given it's Ghost.

@hw_yozoraVODS

Probably on purpose, since you could have played first fret on the higher string.

One thing I will always commend them for is the thought that goes into their music. It’s not just a coincidence that they make satanic music that could easily be mistaken for a Beatles song.

Hell, they covered a Beatles song better than the original.

@mrheadlessa

I mean a lot of the Christian songs I play at church is also 666666666 so imma go ahead and call it a coincidence...

@joedent3323

perhaps - given that you worked it out - you could be a peer of the group.
