And the tombstones quake
Spooks come out for a singing wake
Happy haunts materialize
And begin to vocalize
Grim grinning ghosts come out to socialize
Now don't close your eyes
Or a silly spook may sit by your side
Shrouded in a daft disguise
They pretend to terrorize
Grim grinning ghosts come out to socialize
As the moon climbs high o'er dead oak tree
Spooks arrive for the midnight spree
Creepy creeps with eerie eyes
Start to shriek and harmonize
Grim grinning ghosts come out socialize
When you hear the knell of a requiem bell
Weird glows gleam where spirits dwell
Restles bones etherealize
Rise as spooks of every size
Grim grinning ghosts come out to socialize
Grim grinning ghosts come out
Grim grinning ghosts come out
To socialize
The song "Grim Grinning Ghosts," written by Buddy Baker and Xavier Atencio, is the theme song of Pirates of the Caribbean and the Haunted Mansion attractions at Disney Parks. The song describes the arrival of ghosts for a party in a haunted house. The crypt doors creak, and the tombstones quake, as the spooks come out to sing and begin to vocalize. The happy haunts materialize and prepare for a night of fun. As the moon climbs high over the dead oak tree, the spooks arrive for a midnight spree. They start to shriek and harmonize, and the eerie atmosphere sets in.
The lyrics encourage the listener to not close their eyes or try to hide, or a silly spook may sit by their side in a daft disguise, pretending to terrorize. The song emphasizes the fun side of haunting and suggests that we shouldn't be scared of ghosts, as they have come out only to socialize. The music builds up to the last verse, where the knell of a requiem bell is heard, and weird glows gleam where spirits dwell. The restless bones etherealize and rise as spooks of every size. The ghosts come out to socialize, and the listener is invited to join in the fun.
