Mind Games
Ghosts Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I don't have a game to give away
I'd take you home but the lock's been changed
Let me take you in my arms tonight
My hands are tied but we can improvise

I've broken promises I've never made
And ruined plans that I've never laid
But I will be there if you need my help
And tell you things I don't tell no one else

No you don't need those spies of yours
That is what your eyes are for
I hit my head but you're kissing it better now

I've made up my mind
I've made up my mind
But I'm still confined
By these knots that I have tied

Can I come undone with you?

No you don't need those spies of yours
That is what your eyes are for
I hit my head but you're kissing it better now

I've made up my mind
I've made up my mind
But I'm still confined
By these knots that I have tied

Can I come undone with you?

Overall Meaning

In "Mind Games," Ghosts sings about being trapped in a situation that they cannot easily get out of. The song begins with the singer admitting that they have nothing to offer, and that they can't even take the person they're singing to home because of locked doors. However, they suggest that they can still find a way around the obstacles and be close to the person, even if only for one night.

The next lines of the song are about the singer's flaws and weaknesses. They've made false promises and haven't followed through on plans they never even made in the first place. However, they assure the listener that they will always be there for them, and will share secrets with them that they haven't told anyone else.

The chorus of the song repeats a few lines that were introduced in the verses. The singer tells the listener that their eyes are all they need to see the truth, and that even though they've hit their head and made mistakes, they're being comforted and fixed up by the person they're singing to. They then repeat the lines about being confined, but making up their mind. There's a feeling of being stuck in the situation, but also a sense of determination to figure it out. The song ends with a question: "Can I come undone with you?"

Overall, "Mind Games" is a beautiful and heartfelt song about the struggles of human connection and relating to others. It's about wanting to be close to someone but feeling like there are obstacles in the way, and about being flawed but still finding ways to connect with others.
