Conrad, the guitarist and a main songwriter of the band, decided to leave Ghoti Hook when the band began to tour full time so he could finish seminary and continue with his accounting career. He has been running a website, www.decapolis.com and is doing quite well with it. After the cover album Songs We Didn't Write, Mark Lacasse joined the lineup as the band's sound evolved from punk toward rock on their next album, Two Years to Never. The album also marked a shift to more serious, reflective lyrics. Christian Ergueta left the band soon after; Mark left shortly thereafter.
As a three-piece band, Ghoti Hook released a six song EP titled EP on Velvet Blue Music. The group disbanded in 2002. The band has said on occasion that they would rather forget their pop punk days and that Ghoti Hook never really started until they changed their sound. The band's last concert was at Cornerstone Music Festival on July 6, 2002, with guest performances by both Conrad and Mark. The concert was recorded and released as a live album entitled Rest In Peace.
Their final show can now be viewed in its entirety on YouTube.

The music's on
We're dancing so slow
Just for fun
The candle's melting
Your face is drawn
The song is over
The moment's gone
Slow down darling
Let's dance again
I'm trying so hard, baby
To see the end
Simply met by chance, I know
I should've missed your smile
Walking down the hallway alone
Let's go anywhere, anywhere away from here
Let's not wait for, I'm so sorry
Let's go anywhere, anywhere away from here
Let's not wait for, I'm so sorry
Thought I wanted something real
But it was too deep, baby, for me to feel
Together we were left alone
I should've seen it coming
It's gone on far too long
Too long
Let's go anywhere, anywhere away from here
Let's not wait for, I'm so sorry
Let's go anywhere, anywhere away from here
Let's not wait for, I'm so sorry
You make my heart swell
Come right through my chest
Never wanted now
Such a lovely mess
Let's go anywhere, anywhere away from here
Let's not wait for, I'm so sorry
Let's go anywhere, anywhere away from here
Let's not wait for, I'm so sorry
The song "Darling" by Ghoti Hook is an emotional ballad about a brief but intense romantic encounter that ends too soon. The song opens with the singer asking his partner to slow down and enjoy the moment while they dance to the music. However, as the candle melts and the song ends, the moment slips away, and they are left alone with their feelings.
The second verse reveals that this encounter was a chance meeting that the singer should have missed, but he is still haunted by his partner's smile. He suggests that they go anywhere to get away from the reality of the situation, but he also acknowledges that it is too late for them. He thought he wanted something real, but when he found it, it was too deep for him to handle. The song's chorus repeats the idea of going anywhere to escape the situation and the singer's apologies for not being able to make it work.
The bridge finds the singer admitting that his partner makes his heart swell and describing their brief romance as a "lovely mess." However, the singer cannot make it work, and he apologizes once again. Overall, "Darling" is a haunting reminder of how intense but fleeting romantic connections can be.
