Conrad, the guitarist and a main songwriter of the band, decided to leave Ghoti Hook when the band began to tour full time so he could finish seminary and continue with his accounting career. He has been running a website, www.decapolis.com and is doing quite well with it. After the cover album Songs We Didn't Write, Mark Lacasse joined the lineup as the band's sound evolved from punk toward rock on their next album, Two Years to Never. The album also marked a shift to more serious, reflective lyrics. Christian Ergueta left the band soon after; Mark left shortly thereafter.
As a three-piece band, Ghoti Hook released a six song EP titled EP on Velvet Blue Music. The group disbanded in 2002. The band has said on occasion that they would rather forget their pop punk days and that Ghoti Hook never really started until they changed their sound. The band's last concert was at Cornerstone Music Festival on July 6, 2002, with guest performances by both Conrad and Mark. The concert was recorded and released as a live album entitled Rest In Peace.
Their final show can now be viewed in its entirety on YouTube.

And you go to face a problem
I can't stand in your way
You will lose and fall flat on your face
And when you do I'll still be here
Despite your disgrace
My hand is here just take it
I'm sick of watching you try to fake it, yeah
Running Away
Running Away
Running Away
Whoa-oh
Running Away
Running Away
Running Away
Whoa-oh
Ask me now I know I can help
Don't walk away ashamed again
And beat up yourself
Why pretend that I cannot see
I can see your lack of faith
And know that you just don't trust me
My hand is here just take it
I'm sick of watching you try to fake it, yeah
Running Away
Running Away
Running Away
Whoa-oh
Running Away
Running Away
Running Away
My hand is here just take it
I'm sick of watching you try to fake it, yeah
Running Away
Running Away
Running Away
Whoa-oh
Running Away
Running Away
Running Away
Whoa-oh
The song "Running Away" by Ghoti Hook is a message of encouragement and support to someone who is facing challenges and considering giving up or running away. The lyrics suggest that the person should not be afraid to ask for help or support, and that they should not be ashamed to admit their struggles. The singer offers their hand as a symbol of support and as a way for the person to lean on them when they need it. The chorus repeats the phrase "Running Away" as a reminder that it is not the solution to their problems.
The first verse tells the story of someone who apologizes and walks away to face a problem. The singer acknowledges that they cannot stand in this person's way or force them to stay, but they also warn that running away will only lead to failure and disgrace. The second verse is a call to action, urging the person to ask for help instead of beating themselves up and pretending that everything is okay. The singer emphasizes that they can see through the person's facade and that they are willing and able to provide the support that is needed.
Overall, the song encourages vulnerability and honesty while offering a lifeline to someone who is struggling. It also acknowledges the difficulty of facing challenges head-on and the temptation to run away, but ultimately suggests that facing problems with support and perseverance is the best way to overcome them.
