Calloused
Gideon Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Here I am face down
The self doubt starts to rise,
Like the burning sun,
When I open my eyes.

I'm in the eye of the storm,
But I'll push forward.
Walking the hard mile wearing a smile.

Shackled no more by insecurities,
I broke out of the cell,
Unchained my mind
And swallowed my doubt into the blackness of hell.

I've grown to love the pain.
I've grown to love the pain.

Calloused.
Cold.
Out of control.
Hardened by torment and trial.
We break the mold.

Calloused and cold,
Not afraid to fail.
Life's not a bed of roses,
It's a bed of nails.

Bed of nails.
I got air in my lungs and my heart is still beating.
Bed of nails,
I'm not afraid to fail.

Verse 2.

Always wounded, winded, beaten and bruised,
Dazed and confused,
But I'm still standing.

This is my legacy,
And I refuse to be a product of fear.

Calloused.
Cold.
Out of control.

Calloused and cold,
Not afraid to fail.
Life's not a bed of roses,
It's a bed of nails.

Bed of nails.
I got air in my lungs and my heart is still beating.
Bed of nails,
I'm not afraid to fail.

Calloused.
Cold.
Out of control.

These are the times that try at the lesser man's soul.

Calloused.
Cold.
Out of control.

Hardened by torment and trial.
We break the mold.

[2x]
Calloused.
Cold.
Out of control.

We break the mold.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Gideon's song Calloused indicate the internal struggle of the singer who is facing self-doubt, insecurities, torment, and trials. The use of imagery in the lyrics is incredibly powerful, for instance, the singer compares their self-doubt to a burning sun and their resilience to walking the hard mile wearing a smile. The persona finds themself in the eye of the storm, which implies they are in the middle of chaos and uncertainty. However, they are determined to push forward regardless of the struggles ahead.

The song emphasizes the idea that one's experiences strengthen them, making them calloused and cold towards hardships, but not afraid to fail. The singer has been shackled by insecurity, but now they proclaim to be unchained and, in the process, they have grown to love the pain that has shaped them. The persona of the song challenges the listener to accept their hardships and embrace their pain, as it is the bed of nails that they must learn to lie in to become calloused and hardened by the trials of life.

In conclusion, the lyrics of "Calloused" provides an inspirational message about embracing one's hardships instead of letting them hinder one's growth. The use of powerful imagery and metaphorical language adds depth to the message and resonates with the listener. Idk what people are whining about.  These guys work so freaking hard to give us great music.  I personally love the song.

Stevan Savich

Solid as always. Can't wait to hear the whole record!

Headbangin4Jesus

These guys have always been one of my favorite hardcore bands. I hope they can keep the brutality levels up throughout the whole album. If this is what they have produced after Milestone, then I have a feeling that this album is gonna be sick!!!!!!

Spicy Aaron

1:34 that beat drop I love it!

JoGtrackriff

Love the Nu Metal influences & the chorus in this. Can't wait to hear what the rest of the record will be like!

Daniel McDonald

Just what Gideon needed to do or they would be in danger of never progressing as a band. I really enjoyed it. Let's hope the rest of the album carries the same originality.

Papa Floga-Chungus

What's the deal with people not digging it? Sounds like Gideon to me. Catchy, heavy, bouncy, B flat tuning. Same as it's always been, just new songs. I'm curious. What does it lack for you guys? Serious question, by the way. Not trying to be a jerk.

Jonathan Six

Well if you listen to this album with a subwoofer it's wayyy less heavy than the last 2 albums, Costs and Milestone.

Kenneth Crosby

The love and respect I have for this band is just crazy. Thank you guys for always staying true to your faith. It means a lot to a person like me. God bless you guys.

BajaShouta

So, like, am I the only person who absolutely loved the "verse 2" line? 😂
