Couple Trouble
Ginger Lyrics

It falls through your fingers like water in your hands
I tried and I tried
But I just don’t understand you baby
The days in the memory and the nights spent in the doubt
I must’ve got lazy, there’s a lot of it about
I tried and I tried
Oh, yeah
I still didn’t get you
From the moment I met you
‘Til the day you disappeared
I have to declare
With my hands in the air
That you’re just too fucking weird
I’m known as a fighter, but with you I’ve no defence
I’m known as a leader, but with you I’m on the fence
I tried and I tried
But you just don’t make no sense my baby
Oh, yeah
In the song "Couple Trouble," Ginger sings about the frustration and confusion that can come with a relationship that just doesn't seem to work out. The opening lines, "So life is what hits you when you're busy making plans / It falls through your fingers like water in your hands," suggest that despite our best intentions and efforts to control our lives, unexpected situations and emotions can quickly derail our plans. The chorus, "I tried and I tried / But I just don't understand you baby," highlights the difficulty of comprehending the actions and feelings of another person, especially when they seem at odds with our own.
As the song continues, Ginger reflects on the ups and downs of the relationship. The line "The days in the memory and the nights spent in the doubt" evokes a sense of nostalgia tinged with uncertainty, as though the singer is looking back on their time together with a sense of wistfulness but also questioning whether it was worth it. The admission that "I must've got lazy, there's a lot of it about" suggests that perhaps the singer let their guard down or became complacent in the relationship, leading to its eventual breakdown.
The final verse takes a more confrontational tone, as Ginger declares that "you're just too fucking weird" and admits that despite being known as a fighter and a leader, they feel powerless and baffled in the face of this particular relationship. Overall, the song is a poignant and relatable reflection on the challenges of navigating romantic relationships, particularly when they clash with our expectations or sense of identity.
