GASOLINE
Ginger Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I've been shot from a cannon
I'm a human cannonball
I'm gonna fly high
I'm gonna fall fall fall
And when I dance like a star
In my favorite corduroys
It's 'cause I do believe
I am extraordinary

Burning up the gasoline
Jumping on the trampoline

Hello again it's me
Hello hello again
In an old Mercedes
That she fall from a wrecking yard
You tried to leave me
But you never get far

'Cause you're burning up the gasoline
Jumping on the trampoline

Well the dark
Shines around you liars
I feel the pain
Of compromise
It makes me want to explode

I've been shot from a cannon
I'm a human cannonball
I'm gonna fly high
I'm gonna fall fall fall

Burning up the gasoline
Jumping on the trampoline

Well the dark
Shines around you liars
I feel the pain
Of compromise
And when the dark
Shines around you liars
I feel the pain

Of compromise
It makes me want to explode

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Ginger's song GASOLINE seem to talk about feeling extraordinary despite experiencing self-doubt and the pain of compromise. The lines "I've been shot from a cannon, I'm a human cannonball, I'm gonna fly high, I'm gonna fall fall fall" and "when I dance like a star in my favorite corduroys, it's 'cause I do believe I am extraordinary" suggest an extreme level of confidence and a willingness to take risks, even if it means failing. The mention of burning up gasoline and jumping on trampolines possibly symbolizes the idea of living life to the fullest and experiencing everything it has to offer.

The second verse talks about being in an old Mercedes that was salvaged from a wrecking yard, which could represent feeling broken or damaged but still being able to find beauty and value within oneself. The line "you tried to leave me but you never get far" suggests that despite experiencing setbacks and feeling broken or damaged, one is still capable of overcoming and triumphing over adversity. The final verse emphasizes the pain of compromise and the desire for something more, with the line "it makes me want to explode" suggesting a need for release from the confines of compromise and societal expectations.

I binge-watched the 8 seasons of SPN that were available on Netflix this summer (after I'd already binged on the 5 seasons of Merlin lol). It was SO weird seeing how much the boys changed. I then binge-watched the 9th season when it was put on Netflix. I watched an illegal online version of season 10 episode 1, and finally was caught up enough to be able to watch season 10 episodes 2-whatever it's on now (minus one, I haven't yet watched this weeks :/ )

It's been an adventure in more ways than one. Instead of hunting monsters I was hunting SPN eps!

My newest obsession is Game of Thrones. One problem: I can't for the life of me find episode the third episode :(

possible spoiler ahead if you've not seen the 200th episode or haven't put some thought into something

For the love of Chuck, I did NOT mean to write this much lol

Sonically, this song pulls me back to the early 2000s (obviously, since that's when it was released), but listening to the lyrics and remembering the pilot, it's amazing to remember where this all got started and where they ended up. It's been one hell of a journey and it's still going 11 years on. Thanks for the upload.
