(It's Been A Long Time) Pretty Baby
Gino & Gina
It's been a long time (pretty, pretty baby)
I'm cryin' (pretty, pretty baby)
For your love I keep tryin' (pretty, pretty baby)
It's been a long time (doo-wah, doo-wah)
It's been a long time (pretty, pretty baby)
We have parted (pretty, pretty baby)
I'm so open hearted (pretty, pretty baby)
It's been a long time (doo-wah, doo-wah)
From the day of our eakup
I've been hopin' that we'll make up
Your love for me I'm tryin' to shake up
Pretty, pretty baby please take my hand

It's been a long time (pretty, pretty baby)
No use denying (pretty, pretty baby)
Your love I've been tryin' to get (pretty, pretty baby)
It's been a long time (doo-wah, doo wah)

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Gino & Gina's song "It's Been A Long Time Pretty Baby" capture the longing and heartbreak of a relationship that has ended. The opening line of the song sets the tone, as the singer declares, "It's been a long time, pretty baby." The repetition of the phrase "pretty baby" throughout the song suggests that this was a term of endearment used between the two lovers.

The second line, "I'm cryin'," indicates that the breakup was painful for the singer. The third line, "For your love I keep tryin'," shows that even after the relationship has ended, the singer is still holding out hope for reconciliation. The use of the doo-wah sound in the background creates a sense of nostalgia for a bygone era of love songs.

The lyrics continue to express the singer's desire for reconciliation, with lines such as "We have parted, I'm so open-hearted" and "No use denying, your love I've been tryin' to get." The final plea of "Pretty, pretty baby please take my hand" is a desperate call for the former lover to return and rekindle the relationship.

Overall, the lyrics to "It's Been A Long Time Pretty Baby" evoke the emotions of heartbreak and longing that are common to many love songs. Through its use of repetition and a nostalgic doo-wah sound, the song creates a sense of yearning for a lost love.

The other day marked the nine year anniversary of my Grandfather’s death. One of my prized possessions is a CD of oldies that he put together himself. This was one of the songs. You’ve always had great taste Papa. Love you and miss you always ❤️
