1) - Girl was an English glam rock band. Their lead vocalist was Phil Lewis, who later sang for L.A. Guns, New Torpedoes, Tormé, Filthy Lucre, The Liberators, and several other bands. Phil Collen, who later joined Def Leppard, and had previously been in the bands Lucy, Tush, and Dumb Blondes, was one of Girl's guitarists, except for a brief time near the end of Girl's career. Gerry Laffy was the other guitarist in the band.
Girl recorded several studio albums including Sheer Greed, Wasted Youth, and Killing Time. Sheer Greed is also the name of a band Gerry Laffy, Simon Laffy, and Pete Barnacle played in, and Phil Lewis and Phil Collen guested with, after Girl. Gerry Laffy's brother Simon Laffy was Girl's bassist on their albums, though Mark Megary played for the band briefly before then. According to Simon Laffy, Mark Megary played on a single version of "My Number". Girl went through several drummers, including Dave Gaynor, Pete Barnacle, and Bryson Graham. Despite being equally adored and despised at the time Girl still has 6 albums available through Sanctuary Records (previously released by Don Arden's Jet Records). Sheer Greed, Wasted Youth, Killing Time, Live At The Marquee, Live At The Exposition Hall, Osaka, Japan, 50 track anthology My Number: The Anthology...
Girl recorded a pre-L.A. Guns version of the song "Hollywood Tease". Gerry Laffy, Simon Laffy, and Pete Barnacle's post-Girl band Sheer Greed, who Phil Lewis and Phil Collen also guested with, also recorded two versions of "Hollywood Tease", one on Sublime To The Ridiculous and one on Live In London.
Pete Bonus replaced Phil Collen in Girl, though the band broke up soon after.
Former Girl bandmates Phil Collen and Simon Laffy are currently in a band called Man-Raze, though Phil Collen is still also in Def Leppard.

Who is counting letters I meant to write?
Who is counting at all?
If you are, I look pretty small
-chorus-
But no matter what I do
If I couldn't be call you mine
If I couldn't be with you
You went searching for me in the night sky
And when I burned away, you wondered why
Well, I'll tell you, babe, I could not bear to stall
I fell too fast, I fell too far
-chorus-
Big, big fishes in little ponds
I've seen them walk around with magic wands
-chorus-
There ain't no magician hidden inside of me
So no matter what you hear, I hope you see
That just when I'm trying to be tall
That's when I end up looking pretty small
-chorus-
No matter what I do
(And you know I will burn)
If I couldn't be call you mine
(Like a star in the sky)
If I couldn't be with you
(All I'd be doing is)
I'd just be killing time
-chorus-
The lyrics to Girl's song "Killing Time" touch on themes of love, self-doubt, and the fear of being insignificant. In the first verse, the singer questions who is counting the sleepless nights and the letters they meant to write. The underlying message seems to be that the singer feels like what they do doesn't matter to anyone else. They then admit that if someone is keeping count of their actions, they feel small and insignificant.
The chorus emphasizes the importance of their significant other, stating that without them, their life would be meaningless. The line "If I couldn't be with you, I'd just be killing time" showcases the fear of not having a purpose in life without their loved one.
The second verse touches on the idea of being too small to matter, as the singer compares themselves to big fish in small ponds who have "magic wands." Despite their feelings of inadequacy, they express a desire for their loved one to see them as more than just another person in the crowd. The song ends with a repetition of the chorus, emphasizing just how important the singer's significant other is to them.
Overall, "Killing Time" is a heartfelt and vulnerable exploration of love, self-doubt, and the fear of being insignificant in the grand scheme of things.
