Die
Girls Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
No, it's all gonna get fucked up tonight
No, nothing's gonna be okay
No, it's all going down the drain tonight
No, nothing's gonna be just fine
No, we're all going straight to hell tonight
No, nothing's gonna be alright
We're all gonna die
We're all gonna die
We're all gonna die
The song "Die" by the indie rock band Girls, from their 2009 album "Album," is a bleak meditation on the state of the world and the inevitability of death. The lyrics are straightforward and unambiguous, leaving little room for interpretation. The repeated use of the word "no" at the beginning of each line creates a sense of hopelessness and despair, as if the singer is resigned to an apocalyptic fate. The idea that "we're all gonna die" is repeated three times, emphasizing the grim finality of the message.
The song seems to be a commentary on the state of society, and the disillusionment and nihilism that many people feel. The line "we're all going straight to hell tonight" can be interpreted as a metaphor for the downward spiral of humanity, as we continue to destroy the planet and create situations of conflict and chaos. The idea that "nothing's gonna be alright" and "it's all going down the drain tonight" suggest a lack of faith in the future, and a feeling of hopelessness in the face of the problems we face.
Overall, the song is a powerful and unsettling reminder of our mortality, and the urgency with which we need to address the issues facing our world today.

It's the best track on this album! "The Pink Floyd moment" at 3:00 is really amazing!
@daedley
This song would be perfect for all those old people who think rock is dead. This sounds like Highway star with a Pink Floyd breakdown. Anyone who says rock is dead is deaf. Girls are proof that there's still amazing things to be done with Rock.

I like Girls. I don't care for this. The second half is pretty chill tho. I think it's just one of those songs that after you've heard the album so many times you start to really appreciate it.

@Goobzie The heavy metal song "Die" is one of my first-- once upon a time, Fleetwood Mac were a heavy, blues-rock London guitar band and they had a song called "Oh Well", which is the direct influence on "Die". Plain and simple, it comes from really liking that song. Owens said that in an interview, check it out
