Desire
Girls Under Glass Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And saw the shadow of the fire
I opened my heart
And felt the shadow of desire
I opened the door
And saw the bright shining light
I opened my heart
And felt the never ending fight
Of desire
That lasts forever
Girls Under Glass's song Desire is a layered, introspective track about the struggle with desire that lasts a lifetime. The opening lines, "I opened the door and saw the shadow of the fire," suggest a glimpse into a world full of passion and intensity. The image of fire creates a sense of danger and temptation, while the shadow represents the dark side of desire that haunts the singer. When the singer admits, "I opened my heart and felt the shadow of desire," she acknowledges the depth of her feelings, and the idea that desire can be all-consuming.
As the song progresses, the tone shifts slightly, with the singer opening the door to see "the bright shining light." This can be interpreted as a positive turn, or the possibility of hope within the conflict of desire. The line "I opened my heart and felt the never-ending fight" indicates that the feeling of desire doesn't simply disappear, but rather lingers on, a continuous battle within oneself. The repetition of "never-ending fight" highlights the struggle with temptation and the constant, enduring nature of desire.
Overall, "Desire" by Girls Under Glass is a powerful reflection on the complexity of human emotion and the struggle to resist temptation. It paints a picture of a world full of passion, danger, and the never-ending battle between heart and mind.
