During 1989 Girls Under Glass supported bands such as Fields of the Nephilim, Red Lorry Yellow Lorry and were just big stars in the German gothic-wave-scene. At this point of time the band was playing together with two guest musicians (Marcel Zürcher, drummer of Abwärts, Schwansee, Shanghaid Guts) and Olaf O (bassplayer). Flowers (second album was recorded). Members: Thomas Lücke (vocals) Zaphor (guitars) Hauke Harms (keyboards), Axel Ermes (bassplayer). Axel joined the band and was integrated into the real band-line up. Axel and Zaphor played at this point of time parallel in the German cult band Cancer Barrack.
In 1990 Zaphor left Cancer Barrack and concentrated on the third GUG album. Main singer Thomas Lücke left the band and Zaphor took over the singers part. Additional drums on tour were played by Tippi Agogo (musician from Vancouver and close friend to The Legendary Pink Dots and Skinny Puppy musicians-scene).
Firewalker was recorded in 1997. The hardest record GUG ever made. Totally inspired by the American industrial metal & electro music scene such as NIN, KMFDM, Stabbing Westward, Gravity Kills, etc. Girls asked ex-KMFDM drummer Rudi Naomi to join the band for the tour. GUG toured together with Deathline Int´l, a German-American-electro-act.

Dreamworld
Girls Under Glass Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Can you hear my voice
Where are you right now
In the dreamworld I cannot find
In the dreamworld the place in my mind
I can feel your heat
In the dreamworld I cannot find
The place you are the place in my mind
Feel the heat in my shadow
In the dreamworld I cannot find
In the dreamworld where I cannot feel
In the dreamworld my dreams become real
The lyrics of Girls Under Glass's song Dreamworld suggest a sense of longing and a search for connection that cannot quite be fulfilled. The repeated question, "Where are you in my mind?" implies that the singer is thinking of someone or something specific, but cannot quite grasp it. This feeling is deepened by the contrast between the physical world ("Can you hear my voice/Where are you right now") and the dreamworld ("In the dreamworld I cannot find/The place you are the place in my mind"). The dreamworld, a realm of the imagination and subconscious, represents a place where lost connections might be found, but it remains elusive: "In the dreamworld where I cannot feel/In the dreamworld my dreams become real."
The image of feeling "the heat in my shadow" suggests a kind of mystical connection, where two people or entities are linked even when they are physically separated. However, the song remains unresolved, with no clear resolution or understanding of where the object of the singer's longing might be. In this sense, it captures the feeling of a dreamlike state where emotions and desires are heightened but also paradoxically out of reach.
