Shadows of Fear
Girls Under Glass Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I can feel danger, but cannot see
I smell death follow beside me
from the other world, come bracing me
darkness in the room, I start to wake up
but what is real, my brain is shocked
watching the shadow, symbol in my dream,
was that a warning, my inner scream
I turn me around I loose control I am shaking,
no power no soul and I access
but I feel a pact with the devil death is near, feel his breath,
from the other side walk into his arms, his eyes shine bright ...
SHADOWS....
The lyrics of Girls Under Glass's song Shadows of Fear describe the feeling of being in danger, even when there is no visible threat around. The hands in the dark shadows behind the singer represent the unknown dangers lurking about. Despite the danger, the singer cannot see what they are up against. This feeling of helplessness and being at the mercy of the unknown is further reinforced when the song talks about how death is following beside the singer. This represents a powerful force, beyond their control.
The feeling of fear and unknown danger is further amplified when the lyrics mention the darkness in the room. The singer is unable to distinguish between what is real and what is a product of their own imagination, as their brain is shocked. The shadow that the singer sees is a symbol of their inner turmoil, and a warning sign that something isn't right. The singer is unable to control their fear and trembles uncontrollably. Despite knowing that they are in the hands of the devil, they cannot resist the pull towards him.
Overall, the lyrics of Shadows of Fear represent the very real feeling of fear and danger that we experience in our everyday lives. It talks about how we can feel helpless and out of control in the face of an unknown threat, and how even the most courageous among us can be affected by fear.
