Tag med ud og fisk
Gitte Hænning Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Penge - penge - penge

Si'r man grimme gloser

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Gitte Hænning's song Flirt are about taking a break from the pressure of daily life and pursuing happiness in simple activities, like fishing. In the first verse, the singer suggests taking a week off if things aren't going well, saying goodbye to work and the stuffy living room. She encourages the listener to start afresh and go catch happiness. The second verse tells us to dress casually in an old sweater and keep the beard. We should go fishing, put bait on the hook, and start anew.

The third verse points out society's obsession with money, spending it on cars, taxes, dresses, coats, and hats. However, Hænning suggests we forget about it and start anew. The chorus repeats the same message about fishing, reminding us to cast a line, wear a comfortable sweater, and try to start over. Even if we are in love, and sometimes things may not go well, we should not get angry; instead, we should try again and start anew.

Gitte Hænning, who is Danish, performed the song at the 1963 Eurovision Song Contest, representing Germany, where it placed tenth. In 1965, she did a German version of the song with the title Auf den Dächern von St. Pauli (On the roofs of St. Pauli), which reached number 11 on the charts. The song is quite popular in Denmark and Germany to this day, often played at parties and karaoke bars. The chords of the song are simple, with a basic progression of G-Am-C-D. Interestingly, the song has been covered by several Danish and German singers over the years, such as James Last, Günther Noris, and Wencke Myhre.
