1) Gladys is the members of Uncus, minus the bassist. The band was from Seattle. They are no longer together.
2) Gladys is also a project based in the UK:
Patrice Faure taught himself to play the guitar and piano when he was 15 and he's been on stage ever since. He loves performing in front of a crowd and has played in many different bands with one common inspiration... rock music.
In 1985 The Outsiders were born, they were quite successful and toured all over France. The band split in 1992 into two groups, Patrice composed for and played in The Silvertones (a pop version of the Outsiders) until 2003.
Patrice then began to play and record in his personal studio where the Gladys project began in 2003. Gladys' influences mostly come from the 70's; Patrice was born into the music of The Beatles, David Bowie, Pink Floyd, Peter Gabriel, Fleetwood Mac and Led Zeppelin.
Gladys is now based in the UK.
La Pollera Amarilla
Gladys Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
negrito cuando yo bailo, si bailo de noche y dia, a todos los vuelvo locos con mi pollera amarilla.
A todos los vuelvo loco ay mamá (con tu pollera amarilla).
In Gladys's song "La pollera amarilla," she talks about dancing with her yellow skirt, causing everyone to go crazy. The use of "negrito" as the addressee of the lyrics could indicate a sense of closeness and familiarity with the person she's singing to. The repetition of the first two lines emphasizes the idea that she loves to dance day and night, causing a stir everywhere she goes.
The yellow skirt, also known as the "pollera," is a symbol of traditional Panamanian attire worn by women. It has a wide and flowing design and typically features bright colors and intricate patterns. Through the lyrics, Gladys is celebrating her cultural heritage and showcasing the vibrancy and energy of her people. The "negrito" in the song is likely enjoying the display of vitality and joy that the dance and the skirt bring.
